First fic on this account for 2009! Woot! Here. Enjoy this drabble. This is something that started out as a angst-type thing and, uh, morphed into what you'll find out at the end...

Summary: And for those who knew too much, they soon saw the last of their days.

Secret

There was one rule in Kolder: Mind your own business.

For those who broke the only rule—the law of the land—they soon saw the last of their days. You kept your mouth sealed shut, kept your hands in your pockets, left your jacket zipped up, and carried on your way in silence; don't look at anyone, especially him.

He rules us; you obey Him. He doesn't have a name to us.

For those in on the conspiracies and schemes, they know His name, His law, and, most importantly, His secret. Nobody on the outside knows the secret. That's the second law—don't share the secret. You share the secret, you see the last of your days; it was that simple.

Unfortunately...

Some animals just don't get the two laws drilled into their head in the few hours they have to learn it. For those sad few, they were assassinated by His minions. I narrowly avoided becoming a target; I kept a low profile, stuck to the shadows, and met her—Bella. She got me in on all the plots.

And it's because of her I'm laying her in a pool of crimson blood, my throat slit wide open.

I shared the secret.

I broke the first law.

I broke the second law.

I broke both laws.

And it is because of that I'm dying.

A filthy spy; a snake in the grass.

Don't share the secret; don't tell anyone His name is Cuddles.

Lollamuffin.

It was going to be a big seeping pool of teenage angst, but I decided to turn it into this. The word was given to me by a friend—Butterfly Romance—over the phone. I asked her for a word, and she said 'secret.'
