Aragorn and Eowyn
He was a good man.
She knew that almost immediately: his goodness shone out from him,
A richness of compassion that she'd never known before.
It was, perhaps, his eyes
That caught her first, though.
For he smiled at her, with that gentleness and love
And just like that she was his.
How was she to know he was out of her reach?
As for him, it caused him pain
To see how her eyes followed him:
Good man that he was, he hated to cause her suffering.
And how excruciating that suffering was.
To know that such a man would never be hers
To watch his every move
To memorise his long fingers and earnest gaze
Ah, yes: the heartbreak lies
In that knowledge of what might have been
Far away in another dimension
Where he might have belonged to her, too.
