Finally, something new! This has been on my computer for a while. I've just never gotten around to posting it. I think this pairing is so adorable, expect more from me soon! This is set a while after episode 12, when Chad and Karin work together to defeat the hollow. Enjoy!
Sweet and Low
"Hold me down, sweet and low, little girl
Hold me down, sweet and low, and I'll carry you home
And I'll carry you all the way, I don't wanna be alone"
Chad breathed in deeply, opening his dark eyes to gaze at the clear blue sky. A summer breeze floated over him as he leaned back into the grassy hill. He rubbed a hand over his face. He must have dozed off again.
Long bangs fell over drowsy eyes as Chad stretched; his muscles had gotten stiff. How long had he been lying here? He came so often to this park, waiting, hoping that he might see her again. The days almost blurred together.
"I said, well, hell is so close
And heaven's out of reach…"
Voices? There was shouting. A warning? Chad sat up just in time for a soccer ball to fall straight into his lap. He felt his heartbeat grow stronger.
"Hey mister, you mind?" Chad looked up to see the owner of the impatient voice. He smiled as he stood up, a goofy smile, and held out the ball to the young girl.
"Here."
She walked over and motioned for him to toss the ball back. Her eyes only met his for a moment, but Chad felt a familiar happiness wash over him.
The girl paused, looking around awkwardly and glancing back at her friends. They waved their arms to indicate that she should hurry up. She turned back to the older man, raising her eyebrows and held out her hands again.
He opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. Uncertainty filled her eyes and Chad felt his chest tighten. How could she have forgotten already?
"You're Ichigo's friend, right?" She sounded confused. Chad's eyes lit up. Did she remember?
"Can I have our ball, please?" She sounded almost pained. Chad nodded slowly, sad realization washing over him. He placed the ball in her small hands, letting his fingertips brush hers as he tried to meet her gaze. He had been certain that she would recognize him. His heart felt numb as he watched her walk away and return to her friends.
She looked back only once, glancing over her shoulder quickly to try to place the man in her memory. He had seemed so familiar yet, she was sure she had only seen him once or twice in passing with her older brother. How could she have these feelings for a stranger?
She shook her head as she reached her friends, brushing away the odd thoughts and ridding herself of the slight blush on her cheeks. This is silly, she told herself, and tried to return her focus to the soccer game.
Chad sighed. He knew he'd keep trying. He watched the small pickup game for a moment longer before sitting back down on the grassy hill, humming softly to himself.
"I ain't giving up quite yet, I've got too much to lose"
I hope you liked it! The song is called Sweet and Low by Augustana. Please review!
