Haven't posted anything on this site in forever…ah well.

I do not own Lord Ruthven, who is property of Dr. John Polidori, and from whose point of the view the poem is written. And I do not own Count Dracula, who is property of the Stoker estate, and whose "cape's shadow" is being described. (Though technically the hundred-year deal is up on both of them…)

Shadow of the Cape

Living in the shadows
Is nothing new to me
I've inhabited them and watched in them
Since before he came to be.
But un-living in his shadow
Is not at all the same
That's natural and this is wrong
It has been since he came.
Simply, I was first and he was last
He should bow down to me
But this simple principle
Only I am able to see
They flock about him and worship
And enjoy a chill from his deathly face
Meanwhile I'm handsome and of pretty form
Built with impeccable style and grace.
But still the world loves him
No one hasn't heard his name
But I won in the end of my story
Don't I deserve that fame?
It's not that any of this bothers me,
Though at times I'd like to escape,
But an eternity is quite a long time
To un-live in the Shadow of the Cape.

Review if it strikes your fancy to do so.

Forever with love,

Draculena
