Gibbs externally acted as though he hadn't heard the comment, but he knew it was the truth.
Then again, who did he have to blame but himself? He was the one who had let his guard down. He hadn't been paying enough attention. He should have known he'd shoot again and had them all take the necessary precautions, like the basic "get down."
He should have killed Ari when he had the chance.
Every moment, from the time Ari had held Kate and Ducky hostage in autopsy to the time Kate had been shot, played repeatedly in his head. He thought of everything he should have done, everything he wished he could repeat and do differently, even if it was just those last moments. However against his nature it was, his gut had been screaming to pull her close to him and never let him go. He wished he had.
Thinking over all of his mistakes, he wondered if he would still have his Kate if he hadn't made so many of them.
No, Gibbs thought, shaking his head. Tony was wrong. It wasn't that he hated everyone, including himself.
