A/N: More fluff I found while wading through my documents. Hope you enjoy

Disclaimer: Both Sirius and Remus and his chronic suspicion are J. K. Rowling's to contend with :)

Chronically suspicious

"I love you."

"Honestly?"

Sirius' brow crumples, "Course."

Remus looks at him, and then sighs. "Why do I never believe you?"

"Because you never believe anyone." Sirius considers rolling away, staring up into the ceiling and then thinks better of it. This is something that needs seeing through.

"Why should I believe you?"

"Because I love you." In the darkness of their room, Remus' face is cast like a crescent moon, all scars and fears. He should be happy, Sirius thinks. I should at least be able to make him happy.

"But what if I don't believe you?"

"Then its self perpetuating, isn't it?" Sirius tries to smile but finds that he can't. "I can't make you trust me."

Remus twists under the covers. Sirius reaches up and rests a hand on his cheek to stop him looking away. "Rem, look at me. You haven't looked at me all week."

Remus glances toward him, the whites of his eyes glowing. "I'm sorry," he murmurs.

"I wasn't accusing you of anything." Sirius pauses for a moment and gently runs his fingers over Remus' jaw. "Moons?"

"Sirius?"

"I love you. You can doubt it all you like, but it'll always be there. I'm not going to stop just because you can't bring yourself to believe that someone could actually feel this way about you." He smiles in the darkness, but the doubt in Remus' eyes remains and glows in the shadows.

"Thank you," Remus whispers. "I'm sorry. I'll get better."

"You make yourself sound ill."

"Maybe I am." He closes his eyes, and shuts his misgivings away. "Chronically suspicious."

"Trust me." Sirius murmurs, "I won't let you down. I love you. I'll always love you."
