She still makes his voice shake. It's disquieting after so many years, but when he closes his eyes she's still there, smiling back at him (so alive).
He doesn't speak her name out loud (saves the pleasure for nights when it hits him the hardest – breathes it softly (she deserves as much) and feels his body shake in phantom pains).
Sometimes he mentions her to his newfound companions (lowers his eyes to unadorned hands and calls her 'a girl' (clinical, simple and pain free)).
He will not speak her name out loud. They shall not have her – she's his alone.
