Title: Cookies and Distraction tactics

A lone figure was silently creeping forward along the hallway towards the kitchen. In his hands he clutched a small walkie talkie. The was device one of two given to him, by his Uncle John, for his birthday a few days ago.

"Merlin, are you there yet? Over."

The boy paused in his sneaking to frown at the walkie talkie in his hands. He pressed a button and brought the device to his lips.

"I'm almost there Arthur. I thought we agreed that you would wait for me to contact you when I'm in position." he said.

"But you were taking so long that I thought you might have gotten caught already. Oh and you're supposed to say 'over' when you're done talking. Over." Arthur replied. Merlin huffed in annoyance over Arthur's impatience and the fact that Arthur had thought he'd been captured. When Merlin reached the door to the kitchen he could smell the scent of freshly baked cookies. He licked his lips in anticipation. He opened the door just enough to take a peek into the room. The late afternoon sun streaming in through the windows above the sink bathed the kitchen in a soft golden light. He could see his mother puttering about the room making a cup of tea.

Merlin whispered into his walkie talkie, "I'm in position. Over."

" Can you see the goods? Over." Arthur replied. Merlin looked around the room. Where did she put the cookies? His eyes lit up as he spotted them. They had been left on the window sill to cool. This was going to be a piece of cake.

"I see them, I'm heading in. Go wait outside by the kitchen window. They're on the sill, over." Merlin reported. As he waited for a reply he took deep calming breathes to prepare himself for the next phase of the operation.

"I'm ready, over" Merlin took one last breath and walked into the kitchen. Merlin's mother had finished making her tea while he waited for Arthur to get into position. He smiled, his mum was sitting at the kitchen table, her back to the window. Luck was on their side today.

"Mum, where do babies come from?" Merlin asked. His mother's eyes widened slightly in surprise at the sudden question. She gestured for him to sit down and proceeded to explain . She'd been wondering when her son would finally ask the question many parents seemed to dread having to answer. Merlin sat for the next twenty minutes listened in growing horror as his mother explained exactly where babies came from. Just as she was about to explain how a woman gave birth to a child Merlin threw a quick glance at the window. Arthur had done his job, the cookies had been liberated.

"You know what mum? I don't think I really need to know that. Thanks for explaining everything to me. I'm going to find Arthur. Love you." He ran out of the kitchen and headed for his room where Arthur would be waiting. He couldn't believe that he'd let Arthur talk him into being the distraction. Arthur had even suggested that he ask his mother that question. He hoped Arthur hadn't eaten them all already. When he reached his room Arthur grabbed his arm and dragged him inside and closed the door. Merlin sat next to Arthur on the floor of his room leaning against the bed, the tray of freshly baked cookies on the floor in between them.

"You took your time Merlin. Come on, let's eat the cookies before your Mum finds out they're gone."

Merlin and Arthur grabbed a cookie each and shoved them into their mouths. The sweet taste of chocolate filled their mouths and both boys moaned. The cookies were delicious and definitely worth the scolding that they were bound to receive once their actions had been discovered.
