Authors Note
The following one-shot you are about to read is part of a 30-Day writing challenge that you (yes, you!) can participate in.
Every day (or when I can motivate myself), I shall write a one-shot based around a one- word prompt. Today, however, shall just be the introduction to this 'fic.
If you decide to take part in this, there are a few rules that you should know.
The genre of each one-shot can be whatever you like.
The one-shot has, to do something with the prompt. Say, for example, that the prompt is ''Flight''. You can write anything D D related that has, to do with flight. Maybe someone would write something about a character riding atop of a flying mount, while another could describe the tale of how the Kenku lost their wings.
There is no word limit. Anything from a 1-sentence one-shot, to a descriptive, 9 ½ page essay will do.
With that being said, let's start.
There one was a tome.
Now, when one thinks, hears, or says of this word, they most likely think of the five-part series of books that revolve around the teachings of Necromancy, the Abyss, and the devils and demons that roam its infinite layers.
This tome, however, was different.
Those who say they had supposedly found, and read this tome, claim that it contained thirty stories, all of which were written by different authors.
Stories from those of fantastic quests, to gruesome deaths have been said to be written down throughout the ages in this book.
But, are the legends true?
Is there such tome that contains thirty stories?
Well, my dear, nobody really knows if it exists. Hardly anyone has ever spoken of the tales of heroes which originated from such book.
Until now.
Somehow, you have stumbled across this book of myth. Regardless of how, rather you bought it from a travelling merchant, from finding it in the rain, mud splattered across its cover, and water soaking its pages, you have found it.
But, should you open its cover, and start to read it? Should you ask anyone you know about its origins? Should you hand it over to a library?
Well, that's up for you to decide.
