Impressive Cooking, a Drabble
"I don't see why you're bothering. I'm really not that picky," Rodney complained. He watched as Ronon worked his way around the small kitchen of his apartment. Ronon had gotten the idea that he was going to cook for them. Which was fine of course, Rodney enjoyed a good sandwich or soup from a can. But what Ronon was doing was like watching one of those cooking shows. The ones that you think, no one really cooks like that in real life. Yet, despite Rodney's doubts the food was looking... edible. Alright! It looked delicious! That, Rodney thought, was the problem. It shouldn't look delicious. When naming things that Ronon is good at, Rodney would never have named cooking. Killing people, hiding, running, sex, fighting, killing, kissing, sex, killing, protecting, and more fighting all fit quite nicely. Not cooking.
Finally the, whatever it was, was done. It looked like some sort of seafood gumbo. Ronon made him set the table. Rodney grumbled.
As they sat down Rodney couldn't take not knowing any more. Even if it meant looking - uninformed. Not stupid. Rodney McKay was never stupid. "So... when did you learn to cook?"
Ronon took a bite and savored it before answering. "Before. Back then I was trying to impress Melena." His eyes locked with Rodney's. Then he looked down at Rodney's fork, which was playing with the food. His voice slow, he continued, "I don't know that I succeeded."
Rodney started guiltily and quickly forked something into his mouth. He cringed dramatically and covered his mouth, mumbling around the food, "Hot! Sorry! Hot!" Ronon made that very low sexy chuckle that Rodney liked. When the food in his mouth cooled enough to swallow, he took a second much more cautious bite.
Wanting to impress Ronon with just how impressed he was. Much more impressed than Melena! Stupid Melena. He praised everything, the flavor, the texture, the ...
"Shut up and eat, " Ronon said, looking at him indulgently. There was a look in his eyes now that made Rodney want to forget the rest of the meal and skip to dessert. But... it could wait, after all, it really was very good.
