Slow Day
Nick Valentine: Synth Detective. Tells you everything you need to know about the guy you're hiring but there are things a client doesn't need to know that make up the self-proclaimed synth detective. One of those things is what he does on a slow day with no cases, a day that's never happened until now.
Nick sat at his desk while his receptionist sat hers, he's looking through old cases while she's doodling on a spare sheet, both bored without any real work. Ever since the Sole Survivor arrived and helped with the backlogged cases business has slowed to a crawl. Usually Nick gets at least one case by lunchtime and he spends the rest of the day on it but today was different. It's 1:13pm and not a single person has knocked.
Nick looks up from the old files and sees Ellie just doodling 'No need for to waste her time here if business is slow.'
"Hey, Ellie it's pretty slow today why don't you punch out early."
Ellie looks up from her desk "Punch what?"
Nick chuckles "Sorry old world term. It doesn't look anyone's coming so why don't we close up for today."
"You're sure Nick?"
Nick nods "Yeah, get out there enjoy the town while your still young."
Ellie looks away and back to Nick "Well, if you insist."
It doesn't take long to put everything away and lock up the agency, storm clouds begin to form in the sky as they depart.
Ellie waves "Have a good day."
Nick smiles "Have a good day Ellie. See you tomorrow."
After wandering around a while Nick decides to go to Power Noodles and enjoy the atmosphere. 'I remember a place like this near the police station where old Nick used to work.' After all Nick is a synth based off of a police detective named Nick Valentine and didn't actually live in the pre-war world.
As he sits down the robot Takashi asks "Nani ni shimasu ka?"
Nick holds up one finger "I'll have one noodle bowl."
As Takashi works on his order Nick reflects 'Never thought peace would be so boring. I wonder if old Nick ever wondered what he'd do if the world stopped committing crimes.'
"Nani ni shimasu ka?"
Nick shakes his head "Just a slow day at the office."
"Nani ni shimasu ka?"
Nick looks up "You don't say?"
"Nani ni shimasu ka?"
"Really, which part of town?"
"Nani ni shimasu ka?"
Nick puts his hand to his chin "On second thought Takashi, I'll take my order to go."
As Nick gets up from his seat Takashi wraps the bowl in a strange container and gives it to Nick. He takes the container and heads towards the entrance of Diamond City.
'Evil never sleeps huh? Good cause neither do I.'
