Harry Potter and the Kingdom of Caring
Written by Chibikan
Prologue
Nights were the worst, Harry finally decided as he lay in bed. Ever since his return to Privet Drive, he'd had terrible nightmares. Ones about Dumbledore's murder, Snape, Malfoy. And if that wasn't bad enough, add in nightmares of losing his best friends. There wasn't a night that went by that wasn't filled with fearful visions of Ron being tortured beyond comprehension and finally being hit by that terrible green light. And Hermione, those were even worse. Hermione was a muggleborn, a crime considered unforgivable by Voldemort and the other blood purists. They knew of these dangers and yet they were still willing to follow him to find the remaining horcruxes and to the final confrontation with Voldemort. Voldemort would take great pleasure in killing his best friends, the closest things he had to a family. No! He couldn't allow that to happen. Only he could defeat Voldemort, so why should the others have to come with him? Making his decision, he hopped out of bed and dressed. Using magic (now that he was seventeen as of an hour ago) he packed his trunk. He cast a feather-light charm on his trunk and put on his invisibility cloak. He walked silently down the stairs and slipped unnoticed out of the door. Well, not quite unnoticed. Unbeknownst to Harry, someone had watched the entire thing.
