I Marvel With It

As earth's heroes prepare to face another world ending threat Peter Parker muses on why he and his fellow heroes fight. Just a drabble I was inspired to write as I wanted to take a look into Peter's mind. Mentions of the Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-men but none of them appear as it's just Peter's inner monologue.

These moments come about every so often. Heroes uniting, Avengers, X-men and everyone in between coming together to fight a foe that none of us could hope to face alone. That even logically we don't stand a chance against together.

But we fight anyway, The Fantastic Four fight to make sure there's a tomorrow to make better. The X-men fight for their kind; to show the world that their genetic make up makes them unique but their still human too.

And then there's the Avengers, which I'm humbled to count myself among their number.

(Even if they do let pretty much anyone in these days.)

Earth's Mightiest Heroes fight just because. Because they have to. Because no one else will, no one else can.

I've seen a God that can literally shake the heavens, a man who walks into battle wearing a weapon he designed and built himself and another man who's come to represent the very spirit of the country he wears the flag of.

And the picked me, Peter Benjamin Parker, to stand besides them. (They also picked Wolverine, so don't give them too much credit.)

I wish I could say my reasons were as noble as equality for those born different or creating a foundation for the future or even just because no one else can.

I fight for my Aunt May. I fight for Felicia, Flash, Liz, Betty, Robbie and even Jonah. I fight for Mary Jane, mine wife and our beautiful baby girl.

I fight because I can't bare to lose them.

I fight for Uncle Ben and Harry and Detective DeWolff. I fight for Gwen.

I fight forever every life I failed to save as Spider-Man because the only way I can make up for letting them down is to keep fighting. Because with Great Power their must also come great responsibility.

Because that restaurant down the street is having a two-for-one on steaks and I haven't had a chance to take advantage of it yet. (Stop it. Focus.)

So bring your Apocalypseses. Your Onslaughts. Your Galacticses (Galacti?) Send the Skrull and the Kree and every Shia LaBeouf movie you've got.

My friends will always fight because they're Fantastic and Fearless. Because they're Incredible and Uncanny.

We all have different reasons but they all stand together and I'm proud to stand with them.

When we stand together the world marvels.

And I marvel with it.
