"Oh, Lamb, you know my parents will bail me out with one phone call, and apologize profusely, just so I can't cause a scandal. Why not skip the work and just let me go?"
It was Keith Mars' first day as Sheriff of Neptune, and he thought it would be a good idea to show up a little early, get to know the night shift a little. As he listened to the young girl's loud and slightly slurred voice, he wondered exactly what he had gotten himself into.
"Excuse me, I'm Sheriff Mars. Is there a problem here?" Keith said, rounding the corner and finding a young looking cop and a even younger looking girl in a obvious staring competition.
"Don Lamb, sir. Nice to finally meet you." The cop said, standing to greet the older man. "This is..."
Lamb was cut off by the young blonde.
"Well hel-lo, Sheriff! I'm Lilly Kane." The girl answered, winking. She smiled as the older cop didn't even flinche and a blush crept up Lamb's cheeks.
"Miss Kane is only 16, and we found her and her boyfriend, Logan Echolls, on private property, after curfew, in a very--compromising situation." Lamb explained quickly.
"I see." Keith said, casting another glance at the girl.
She was Veronica's age, and she had the same long, blonde hair, but the similarities ended there. Lilly had on thick, dark makeup, and a skirt he hoped Veronica would never, ever own.
"This is not Miss Kane's first offense." Lamb supplied, filling the silence.
"Well, it's early, and I'm sure Miss Kane's parents are worried about her. Let's let her go with a stern - very stern - warning, Officer Lamb." Keith said, nodding at the young man, then turning to face the young girl.
"Miss Kane, I;m new here, but I'm going to allow myself to hope I'll never see you in this building again unless you're on a school field trip. Understand?"
"Of course, Sheriff." The blonde replied, standing up and making her way towards the front door, brushing close to Lamb and tossing him a look that shouldn't be seen except for behind closed doors.
"Sheriff Mars, if I may say, sir, this wasn't her first time here--it was more like her fifth this summer--"
"Thank you, Officer, but I've got a feeling she might not be as bad as she wants us to believe."
