Jessica sighs. She stares at Mike, who sits by the television, a beer in his hand, steadily ignoring his daughter, who's trying to tell him about her first day of fourth grade. She wonders what has happened to the boy she fell in love with so many years ago.
Sydney wonders why her daddy won't pay attention. She tries to think of something to say to interest him. She tells him about the new girl, Bella, who won't play jump rope with the others. His head shoots up but then he grabs another beer. She wonders what happened to the man who used to play with her when she came home from school.
Mike remembers the girl who he loved in high school, who was adorably clumsy but fell in love with the best looking boy in school. He wishes he could have had a different life with her instead of enjoying the one he has now. He drowns his sorrow in alcohol, and ignores his daughter and wife. He wonders what happened to Bella and wonders where she is now.
Edward smiles. He puts his hand over Bella's chest where her heart once beat steadily. He kisses her, grateful to be so lucky to have her. Picking her up he carries her to their bedroom, happy to have the rest of the family out of the house. He's lays her down on the bed and begins to remove his jacket. He laughs remembering how he once was jealous of Mike and Jacob, whose teenage minds are now just a memory. He kisses her again and he begins to undo the buttons on her shirt.
Bella runs her hand across Edward's perfect chest as she remembers those from what seems like another life. She wonders about Jacob and what has become of him, but forces herself not to dwell on him. She looks at her wedding picture on the bedside table, smiling at her former human self. She kisses Edward back, marble lips caressing one another, breathing in his scent, still as powerful to her as the first day she whiffed his jacket. She wonders how Charlie is and how he gets by cooking for himself.
Jacob cries. His beautiful wife holds his hand as he mourns for his father. He holds his young daughter, Bella, and she cries into his shoulder. He remembers when he thought Bella would be the only one he'd ever love. He stills thinks about her, wondering how she is when he lays awake at night unable to sleep. His son, Edward, clings to his leg, tears flooding down his face. He wonders how he'll be able to bear life without his father.
Charlie feels his heart ache. He misses his daughter and his best friend. He wonders if Bella will ever come to see him again. He runs his hand through the small bit of hair left on his head, and rummages through the fridge. He settles on scrambled eggs, just like almost every other night. He wishes he could cry, but the tears won't fall. He walks up stairs and look into Bella's bedroom, realizing that without her he is truly lonely.
Angela lets out a gasp. He calls her husband, Ben, from downstairs and shows him the pregnancy test in her hands. He smiles and hugs her, as happy as when she first landed a job as a journalist in Seattle. She prays that she'll have a beautiful healthy baby, and begs God not to take away this baby too. She wonders what God has in store for the strange family called the Cullens that Bella, her old friend, married into.
Rosalie thinks. She wishes her story could have had a happy ending, but realizes Emmett is her happy ending. She smiles at him, surprising him. He smiles back and whispers her name. He holds her close and rocks her in his arms. She kisses him, and watches as twilight settles down upon them.
Author's Note: This is my first fanfic thus far. I was inspired by Lora-Lai's "s t u c k i n reverse" and decided to try going into the future. It's mostly how Bella has impacted each character's life. Please review - I want to know what you think.
