Severus looked back to Lily's worn face. It had been years since he had last seen her. Seen her smile. Seen her smile. Seen her cry. He had known that after so long, seeing her again would bring up the old wounds, the ones he had tried so hard to conceal. But now, when he looked at her, he felt nothing.
"Sev!" Lily cried, rushing over to the creaking old table in The Three Broomsticks, "I thought I'd never see you again! Where have yo-"
"Later, Lily, I have business to attend to" Severus coughed, and abruptly left the table and slammed the door, leaving the icy air to blow into Lily's shocked face.
Lily sank, grief stricken, onto the bench. "My Severus! How could he, after so long, barely utter a word to me? Am I that much of a failure?"
After walking for nearly an hour, Severus stuffed his cold hands into his robe pockets, and turned back around. He had worn himself out with crying and screaming, and now his heart was only filled with angry regrets.
Closing his eyes, Severus disapparated, and reappeared quickly in his bedroom. He put on his black night robes, and walked over to the smashed picture of Lily. Taking out his old wand, he whispered,
"Reparo"
