One night, Hermione Granger was standing outside, with a serious look upon her face. There had been several reports, from various professors and students, that someone had been roaming around the area, during the night. Hermione thought that was suspicious and she was eager to find out what was going on, so she volunteered to guard the outside of Hogwarts. Guarding a darkly-lit area wasn't easy or much fun, so Hermione had a flashlight, so she could see and had a couple of books, to entertain herself. She opened one of the books and started reading. However, she tried to not get too invested in the book, because she often missed what was happening in real life, because she was captivated by her books.
An hour later, Hermione started hearing some peculiar sounds. She put her book down and started looking around. After a brief moment, the noises stopped. However, there was a figure in the shadows. The figure wasn't moving, except for her mouth. Hermione got closer and closer to the figure, before realizing that it was one of her classmates. Hermione raised an eyebrow of confusion, while wondering who the student could be.
Hermione looked at the mysterious student and said, "Greetings, miss. You'll be needing to tell me, who you are and why you've been roaming around here."
Luna Lovegood had a calm look on her face, while replying, "Greetings, Ms. Granger. I'm Luna Lovegood. We've been in a few classes together, but I wasn't counting on you remembering me. After all, the only students, that remember me are the bullies and you're no bully."
Hermione replied, "I am sorry you have to deal with that, but I still need you to answer my question."
Luna responded, "I like hanging around Hogwarts, at night."
Hermione asked, "Why?"
Luna titled her head up and said, "It gives me a chance, to get a closer look at the lunar moon, my favorite planet." She stared at the moon, with great admiration.
Hermione asked, "Isn't Earth your favorite planet?"
Luna shook her head and said, "I'm afraid not. Earth is full of problems, including the wizarding world."
Hermione felt confused, about a Hogwarts student hating the world of magic. She looked back at Luna and asked, "Then why do you go to Hogwarts?"
Luna answered, "As silly as this might sound, I hope to find a way to end the wizarding world. By being a part of the school, I might find the right magic or spell, that'll end all of this nonsense. Lots of people have been carelessly defeated, due to the dark forces of magic. I'm planning on stopping that."
Hermione sensed, that Luna had good intentions, but she also got intimidating vibes from her. She put her hand on Luna's shoulder and replied, "I'm afraid, that you'll have to stop roaming around the darkness. Also, I need you to be on your best behavior."
Luna smirked and replied, "Depending on how things go, I might do that." Luna walked away. Hermione tried to catch a glimpse of her, but by then, Luna had blended into the darkness of night.
The next day, Ron Weasley pranced around Hogwarts, after having a visit with Hermione Granger. He poured coffee on Professor Severus Snape's tie. Professor Snape started writing a detention slip, while Ron walked up to Harry Potter. Harry signaled for him, to come to their room. After getting inside and closing the door, Harry looked at Ron asked, "What happened with you and Hermione?"
Ron said, "I told her about my grades getting better. After that, I asked her to dinner."
Harry asked, "Did she accept your offer?"
Ron said, "No, but she appreciated the offer. At the risk of sounding too optimistic, I think that's an improvement. She used to think I was an annoying troublemaker. Now, she seems to mildly enjoy my visits."
Harry asked, "Did she have a good reason for turning down your dinner offer?"
Ron sighed and said, "Night patrol. Apparently, some weirdo's hanging around Hogwarts, in the middle of the night. Because of that, Hermione's going to guard the outside of Hogwarts, during the night."
Harry replied, "She's dedicated to her work, something that you don't share in common."
Ron tried to think about when he could ask her out. He said, "She probably has night patrol, tonight."
Harry replied, "You could ask her out to lunch."
Ron said, "That could work."
Harry replied, "Ron, you seem to be making improvements and I'm proud of you. Keep up the good work."
Ron responded, "Don't worry about it."
A short time later, Ron pranced back to the outside of Hogwarts, which Hermione was guarding. He looked inside and saw Draco Malfoy. Draco walked up to Hermione and said, "Hi."
Hermione wasn't fond of Lucius Malfoy's son, because he was a lousy, lazy, and immature person. She tried to hide her annoyance, while saying, "Greetings, Malfoy Jr. How can I help you?"
Draco said, "Go to lunch with me."
Hermione replied, "No thanks."
Draco said, "Come on. I'm the son of a highly-regraded gentleman and I'm a charming fellow."
Hermione replied, "I'm not interested in you."
Draco grabbed one of Hermione's bookmarks and broke it in half. Several bookmarks landed on him. He said, "Ow." He paused and said, "Anyways, since you broke my offer, I broke your bookmark."
Hermione looked at him and asked, "Don't you have a meeting with your father, to be at?"
Draco replied, "My meetings's at seven, so we have time to get lunch."
Hermione said, "It's five minutes, past seven."
Draco replied, "This is the fifth meeting this week, that I'm late for." He started running away.
Ron was worried that Hermione wouldn't want to have lunch with him, because Draco had ruined a lot of her patience. He decided to give it a quick shot, so he walked inside and said, "Hi Hermione."
Hermione replied, "Hi Ron. What's up?"
Ron asked, "Do you wanna get lunch with me?"
Hermione said, "Neville's picking up fast food for me, so I'm not really going anywhere. However, he always gets too much food, so you can stay and have lunch with us."
Ron smiled and replied, "Sounds good."
Five minutes later, Neville arrived and said, "There were so many good deals, that I ended up getting five bags of food."
Ron replied, "I'm joining you guys for lunch, so you don't need to worry about leftovers."
Hermione, Ron, and Neville sat at a table, outside, and started eating. Ron looked at Hermione and asked, "What's going on, at night patrol?"
Hermione said, "Luna Lovegood is up to trouble. She seems to have a hatred for thewizarding world and she might be after you, Harry, and Professor Dumbledore."
Ron spat some fries into Neville's hair and asked, "Why do villains keep coming after me and my friends? Professor Dumbledore is one of the greatest wizards of all time. He sells the best items, including drinkable cookies."
Neville replied, "Drinkable cookies has become one of my favorite drinks." Ron and Neville high-fived.
Ron ate three bags of food and drank four sodas. He said, "That was a terrific lunch."
Hermione had a concerned look on her face, while saying, "You need to be careful about how much you eat. I don't know how a person could eat that much, without getting into serious health problems."
Ron replied, "Don't worry about it."
Hermione said, "I better get back, to guarding the outside of Hogwarts."
Ron replied, "By the way, why did you invite me to lunch?"
Hermione responded, "It was a small way of showing you, that I appreciate how you've been improving. You have some stuff to work on, but I think you have potential."
Ron wasn't used to people, other than Harry, believing in him. It was a comforting feeling and a type of feeling, that he didn't want to lose. He said, "Thanks Hermione. I had a good time with you and Neville."
Hermione replied, "Me too." Ron smiled at Hermione and started heading back to Hogwarts.
Meanwhile, Luna was going for a walk, while a few blocks away from Hogwarts. However, Voldemort walked up to her and said, "Hi Luna."
Luna turned around and angrily asked, "What are you up to?"
Voldemort said, "I have another business offer for you."
Luna replied, "I want no part in it. Just leave me alone."
Voldemort grabbed Luna and responded, "You need me, to guide you."
Luna replied, "You guided people into trouble. Draco's anger was becoming dangerously bad and you tricked me into becoming a worser person."
Voldemort put his arm around Luna and said, "The wizarding world is a harsh environment. During your time at Hogwarts, you saw how harsh it truly is. In order to survive it, you can't be a pushover or a nice guy. You have to be the evilest of them all." He had an evil smile on his face, while saying, "It's how I stayed in business. If you get rid of Hogwarts, I'll reward you and let you take the credit for it. That way, you'd get revenge on the wizarding world, that you hate so much, and you'd be able to enjoy your life. That's an offer, that you couldn't turn down."
Luna pushed Voldemort away, while saying, "I do dislike the wizarding world and you're one of the main reasons, why I feel that way. I'll never work for you."
Voldemort replied, "You're making a headstrong, stupid decision, you bratty simpleton." He shook his fist at Luna, before disappearing into the night.
A few hours later, Hermione started her second round of night patrol. She was patrolling near Hogwarts, because she was expecting Luna to be there. Luna walked by and nudged her. Hermione said, "Greetings, Luna."
Luna had an amused look on her face, while saying, "You missed me, didn't you?"
Hermione asked, "What are you talking about?"
Luna said, "You decided to hang around here, so you could see me again."
Hermione replied, "I did want to pay you another visit."
Luna put her arm around Hermione and said, "I saw that coming. You and I have the potential to be partners. After all, we pretty much have the same goal."
Hermione replied, "I'm not so sure about that. I want to stop the villains of the city, in a fair and legal way. You seem to want to get rid of the business world, because of a grudge."
Luna responded, "We do have differences, but we do have a similarity: We can't stand magical people, who do bad things. My rich parents drive me crazy, goofy actually."
Hermione said, "Please let me take care of the wizarding world. Frankly, I think you're too much of a loose cannon, to handle the wizarding world."
Luna replied, "I am quite the loose cannon, but you are a pushover. You've let Voldemort get away, with a countless amount of crimes, just like how Dumbledore let Grindelwald do a bunch of crimes. That is not acceptable. You need my help."
Hermione asked, "Why would I need your help?"
Luna said, "I know what nose-less boy is planning."
Hermione wanted to know what Voldemort was up to, so that she could stop him before he did any damage. She looked at Luna and said, "Please tell me his plan."
Luna put her hands on her hips and replied, "I'm only going to tell you, if you agree to let me help you."
Hermione said, "I will, if you agree to not break the law."
Luna thought about Hermione's deal. She had wanted to eliminate Voldemort, but her and Hermione defeating his evil plan and having him arrested seemed fitting enough. She stuck her hand out and replied, "I accept your deal." Hermione and Luna shook hands.
Hermione said, "So, what is Voldemort's plan?"
Luna proudly replied, "I learned that spying on him during the day, is more useful than night watching. Tomorrow, during the night, he's planning on going into Hogwarts and having Professor Dumbledore, along with Harry Potter."
Hermione said, "Then I'll save them."
Luna replied, "Ahem."
Hermione paused and said, "We'll stop him."
Luna had a smile on her face, while saying, "I think you and I have potential, to form the ultimate partnership. We may have different problem solving strategies, but our goals are linked together."
Hermione said, "To be honest, I thought you were going to be my new rival."
Luna replied, "Instead, you're my new best friend."
Hermione asked, "Aren't you rushing things?"
Luna said, "The faster, the better. Tomorrow, we're going to break Voldemort's plans." She and Hermione high-fived.
An hour later, Luna returned to her parents' home, for one of her weekly visits. She tried to tiptoe, but her parents knew she was back. Mr. Lovegood angrily said, "You've been coming home late, for weeks."
Luna replied, "It's not like I'm like a ten year-old, who needs a bedtime."
Mr. Lovegood sternly said, "You do need a bedtime, because you're still lacking in responsibility."
Luna whispered, "You're the ones, who are lacking the responsibility department."
Mr. Lovegood asked, "What have you been doing, during the nights?"
Luna started walking up the stairs while saying, "I've been talking to the lunar moon. Also, I made a new friend."
Mrs. Lovegood whispered to her husband, "Our daughter's a lunatic."
Mr. Lovegood whispered back, "That's for sure."
The next night, Hermione and Luna started guarding the outside of Hogwarts. The two of them talked to each other and got to know each other better. They were actually having a nice time, until Voldemort made his return. Voldemort wasn't happy, that people were guarding Hogwarts. However, he didn't seem too concerned about it, because he thought that he was the most dangerous and menacing wizard, that Hogwarts had ever dealt with. He had an evil smile on his face, while saying, "Hogwarts is going to be controlled by yours truly. I'm not afraid, of two young guards, who have no special abilities."
Hermione and Luna pointed their wands at Voldemort, while Hermione said, "My new friend and I do have special abilities. It's time, that you get to face the wrath of justice, you corny monster." She and Luna started using their courage and wands, to attack Voldemort. Voldemort tried to use his own wand, to stop them. However, Hermione and Luna were more well-trained and prepared, than he assumed they were. He wanted to ignore his lack of success and start getting rid of his enemies, so he scowled and started rushing into Hogwarts.
Hermione and Luna started running after Voldemort. Hermione looked at Luna and said, "So, when we catch up to nose-less boy, you're not going to try anything extremely violent, right?"
Luna replied, "I wanted to, but because of our friendship, I'll spare him. However, he's not going to get to keep his freedom. He has to be locked up this time."
Hermione thought about what Voldemort had done and agreed. He had hired Draco, to blast Harry out a window. That sure counted as an illegal crime, not to mention all of the other law breaking antics, that he had done. Hermione said, "Let's put an end, to nose-less boy's magical career."
Luna smiled and replied, "Sounds like the best thing to do."
Voldemort was out of shape, so it was hard for him to keep up the chase. He stopped running and started taking some deep breaths. He said, "That goofy woman, that's chasing me, runs too fast. I gotta keep up this chase, so I can avoid facing whatever she and Hermione have planned." He kept running.
A moment later, Hermione and Luna caught up to Voldemort. Hermione pointed her wand at Voldemort, while sternly saying, "You need to give up."
Voldemort tried to finish catching his breath, before pulling out his wand, and blasting Hermione. He had a smug smile on his face, while saying, "Overly-ambitious youngsters, such as yourself, think they can do the impossible, including stopping me. Allow me to use reality, to crush your dreams. You'll never stop me."
Hermione got up, shook her head, and replied, "You're wrong about that, Voldemort. I have a special advantage, that you've never possessed."
Voldemort asked, "Really? What are you referring to?"
Hermione looked at Luna and said, "We have the power of teamwork, something which you've refused to try."
Voldemort replied, "Teammates make individuals weaker."
Hermione responded, "You're wrong. They make individuals stronger, than you can ever imagine." Hermione and Luna started blasting Voldemort, together. After a few minutes of blasts, the evil wizard fell to the ground and continued catching his breath. Hermione and Luna looked at each other and high-fived.
The next day, Ron ran up to Hermione and said, "Hi Hermione."
Hermione had been so distracted by her new friendship and finally stopping Voldemort, that she was surprised to see Ron. She turned around and said, "Hi Ron. What's up?"
Ron asked, "Do you want to get dinner, with me?"
Hermione said, "Thank you, but I'm not very hungry."
Ron sighed and replied, "Okay then. Perhaps, we can have lunch with Neville, tomorrow."
Hermione smiled and said, "Sounds good."
Ron replied, "Harry and I made a lot of money, at the casino, and my gardes keeps rising."
Hermione responded, "I'm glad to hear that. By the way, you and Harry won't have to deal with nose-less boy, for a while. I arrested him."
Ron had an excited look on his face, while saying, "This has been an awesome day!"
Hermione replied, "It sure has been."
Harry asked, "What's up with you and Luna?"
Hermione said, "She's a new ally of mine."
Ron replied, "I think we've become allies, as well."
Hermione said, "Perhaps we have. Just stay out of trouble."
Ron replied, "Don't worry about it." Hermione waved goodbye and started heading to her room.
After getting into the hallway, Luna walked up to Hermione. Hermione looked at her and said, "Hi Luna. What's going on?"
Luna replied, "I was planning on staring at the lunar moon, but it seemed like a lonely thing to do, without any company. What were you going to do?"
Hermione responded, "I was planning on reading a book." An idea popped into her overly-big brain. She said, "Want to start at the moon, through my window? We can each do what we want, while enjoying each other's company?"
Luna smiled and replied, "I couldn't think of anything better." Hermione and Luna started heading to Hermione's room. The two students realized, that they had found a spell of true friendship and they had each other, to thank for that.
