I Will Always Return

AN: The song is by Bryan Adams "I Will Always Return (finale)" from the soundtrack Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.

Disclaimer: Hey, if I owned Inuyasha then there would be a hell of alot more Inuyasha/Kagome moments! I mean c'mon he got to kiss Kikyou in the manga!

"C'mon Monk, can't you walk any faster?" Inuyasha yells over his shoulder.

"Hey, not all of us have your abundance of energy Inuyasha," shouts back Miroku who nevertheless breaks into a job to catch up with his hanyou friend.

"Feh. Stupid weak human bodies," Inuyasha mutters, and glances up at the sky gauging the position of the sun.

Miroku sighs, as he too glances towards the sky. "You can go on ahead Inuyasha. I don't feel like having to listen to you grumble the whole way back to the village."

"You sure Miroku? I don't want to have Sango rip my head off because I left you on your own." Inuyasha asks, watching the monk carefully out of the corner of his eye, his body already straining to take off down the road.

"Yeah I'm sure. Sango won't mind. We both remember what it was like to newly married," says Miroku, winking at the now blushing Inuyasha.

"Whatever, it's just after three years, I don't like being separated from her…" Inuyasha trails off and Miroku knows that he is remembering all those nights by himself and the desperate hope that he kept alive that Kagome would return.

"I know my friend, I know," Miroku says and places a hand on Inuyasha's shoulder, "Go home Inuyasha. Tell Sango that I will be home tomorrow."

And with that blessing Inuyasha took off down the road, his whole being screaming at him to go home, to get back to the woman who had changed his life.

I hear the wind call my name

The sound that leads me home again

It sparks up the fire, a flame that still burns

To you, I will always return

I know the road is long

But where you are is home

Wherever you stay, I'll find the way

I'll run like the river, I'll follow the sun

I'll fly like an eagle to where I belong

I can't stand the distance

I can't dream alone, I can't wait to see you

Yes, I'm on my way home

Inuyasha could see the village where for them everything started. He takes a deep breath and breathes in the familiar scents of home. He is looking for one scent in particular and when he finds it, he homes in on it like a magnet. 'Kagome!' his body screams. Oh he had been gone way to long!

Now I know it's true

My every road leads to you

And in the hour of darkness your light gets me through

He can see her now, sitting in the meadow picking herbs for healing. Her hair and the loose sleeves of her miko robes are blowing in the breeze. Her face is relaxed and to Inuyasha she was like a beacon of light drawing him in, drawing him home.

You run like the river, you shone like the sun

Yeah!

You fly like an eagle, yeah you are the one

He skids to a stop in front of her, and she looks up, clearly surprised by the shadow that suddenly settles over her. Her face breaks into the biggest smile, and Inuyasha recognizes it as his smile, the smile that she grants only to him.

"Inuyasha!" she shouts and gets to her feet, abandoning the herbs. She throws her arms around him and he pulls her against his chest, his arms wrapping around her and burying his face in her hair breathing in deeply her scent. He is home.

I've seen every sunset and with all that I've learned

It's to you, I will always, always return.
