In the Maid's Eyes:
I have always been looked at as one of the most faithful maids in the castle of Narnia. Both by Princess Vyrina and her parents the King and Queen of Narnia. The King and Queen are wonderful, but my true loyalties lie with Vyrina. I have always been happy with the way the King and Queen treat me, but Vyrina is the one who personally saved me from the horrible orphanage I once lived in. I could never thank her enough for that.
At first I wasn't sure I would like the maid work, but I found that I got used to it. There wasn't that much to do, but dust furniture, make beds, and help Vyrina with anything she needed. I found myself growing even fonder of Vyrina. She was always so kind, loved to ask my opinion about what to wear, and always asked me to join her for dinner. She was beginning to feel like a sister to me and I had even began to think of her as my best friend.
However even with all of the nice things Vyrina had provided me with, there was something growing deeper inside. I couldn't tell what it was, but I could see it just below the surface. She was also not like her parents, in fact I didn't think she looked like them, but I never questioned it. Vyrina liked to keep her secrets and I didn't want to meddle.
I usually liked to stay away from the doors and windows when I could hear people talking, but one day I couldn't help but listen in on the conversation. The way it started just caught my attention right away and I could tell it was the King and Queen talking.
"Your pregnant?" I heard His Majesty ask.
"Yes," said Her Majesty. "I found out this morning. It is what we have been waiting for."
"This is truly happy news, my dear. I'm sure that Vyrina's last suiters will have left the castle by now. He went for a very steep price. I can't help, but feel bad about this."
I stood there in awe. I could hardly believe what I was hearing. It was unlike the King to do something so cruel to Vyrina. He had always acted so sweet to his daughter.
"We have to do this," came the Queen's voice interrupting my thoughts. "Vyrina cannot take the thrown and finally we will have a rightful heir."
"It just doesn't seem right to take this away from our daughter."
"She isn't our daughter Roland. I know you like to treat her like it, but we found her by the side of the road eighteen years ago. She is not really ours, and I know who she belongs too. I don't know how, but. . " the queen began before stopping suddenly.
"What is it?" the King asked.
I left the hall as quickly as I could. I didn't want the King and Queen to know I had been listening to him. It was all starting to make sense. The reason Vyrina was always so sweet to me. She was also an orphan it seemed. The King and Queen of Narnia had been so kind as to take her in as their own, but now they were going to have a child of their own. Vyrina would be crushed when she learns that she is going to lose the thrown. Vyrina had always talked of how she couldn't wait to be queen.
I was sure that Vyrina would be calling for me soon. When she learns that her third suiters had left her she will be very upset. I was finding it hard to believe that such nice people could go against their own daughter, even an adopted one. I wished that I would have been able to hear who Vyrina's real parents were. It really wasn't my business, but I could help my curiosity. I was beginning to walk back down to the thrown room, dusting as I went along, and I heard Vyrina call. I knew she had figured out about her last suiters and she would be questioning the maids for any information. This was information that I could not keep from her. After all, she trusts me and I have to keep my trust in her if she is going to be queen someday.
