Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, or Draco Malfoy, or Parvati Patil, or basically anything in this story except the idea. Kthnx.
A/N: So this Draco/Parvati ficlet was written in about one hour and thirty-seven minutes last night after midnight, so I'm just hoping it doesn't suck too much. Enjoy.
"Why do Muggles make a big deal about having pine trees everywhere at Christmastime?" Draco Malfoy tightened his protective grip around his girlfriend's waist as they strolled together down a somewhat crowded, snow-covered sidewalk. "I mean, it's not like they actually serve any purpose."
"Because they're pretty, Draco," smiled Parvati Patil, looking over at her boyfriend as though this was the most obvious thing in the world. Only twelve days before Christmas, the couple was celebrating their one-year anniversary at a popular Muggle restaurant in London. Obviously, they couldn't have Apparated straight into the restaurant – so they Apparated to a secluded alley not too far from the building, and were taking a romantic walk in the lightly falling snow towards the building.
Even though it was only a block or two to walk, Draco hadn't been fond of the idea. They could've gone to some fancy restaurant in Diagon Alley so they could Apparate straight into it, but no – they had to go to the Muggle restaurant that Witch Weekly had been raving about. Good Merlin. He wasn't going to allow Parvati to purchase those magazines anymore.
Parvati, on the other hand, thought it was a fantastic idea. Snow was sticking to her dark hair and his platinum hair, and they way they were casually treading through the thin layer of snow lying upon the ground, his arm around her slim waist, her fingers intertwined with his – it was like something out of a picturesque storybook. And Parvati loved it.
"That's a very intelligent train of thought," Draco scoffed lightly. "Who likes something just because it's pretty?" Then her boyfriend proceeded to look over at Parvati, referring through his pointed gaze to her love of jewelry and clothing, and basically anything pretty.
Wrinkling her nose at him in an endearing fashion, Parvati rolled her eyes at him and glanced away. And just when Draco has smirked, deciding he had won this fight, the former Gryffindor directed her gaze back towards him as she spoke. "Why do you think I started dating you?"
Now Draco wasn't the only one smirking.
But while the smirk on her lips said one thing, Parvati's eyes were saying something complete different. As much as they were attracted to each other in the physical sense, their connection – their spark, their magic, the one thing that nothing could break – was something that had nothing to do with his appearance, nor to do with hers. And every time he saw that look in her eyes, Draco was reminded of this fact.
The man continued to smirk as he pressed his lips gently against her temple, before nodding in the direction of a building just ahead of them, "There's the restaurant."
"Come on; let's eat," Parvati said, letting an affectionate smile draw at the corner of her lips. While holding the door open for his girlfriend, Draco let his hand slip into the pocket of his coat, fingering the velvet box that contained his mother's previous engagement ring. The former Slytherin smirked.
After all, Parvati always did love pretty things.
