It was over. The Thousand Year Blood War ended with the death of Yuha Bach at the hands of Kurosaki Ichigo. When Bach died, all his 'marked ' Quincy died as well. Unfortunately, Ichigo's actions inadvertently killed his friend, Ishida Uryuu, as well. It is now almost a week since the war ended and the clearing of rubble in Seireitei is still ongoing. To the relief of most, there were no bodies to dig up, as they had all dissolved into reishi days ago.

Below the first squad barracks, in a cold cell devoid of light or sound, sits the still form of Aizen Sousuke. Clack. Clack. Clack. Clack. The sound of geta-shod feet loudly breaks the silence. Coming to a stop in front of Aizen, a person appears when it removes a seemingly invisible cloak. Standing in front of Aizen with a lamp in hand is Urahara Kisuke.

Squinting through the sudden glare of light, Aizen mumbles "Who?" Setting the lamp on the ground, Urahara starts undoing the restraining kido holding Aizen. Once it is removed, the seated man takes a deep breath and runs a hand over his face. Intently looking at the pensive Urahara, he asks "If you're here, releasing me, does that mean...?" "Yes." the other man answers. "Ichigo has mastered Shiro and consequently slain the Quincy king. The war is over." Slumping in his seat, Aizen murmurs "So my life's work has been a success... that's... good."

Frowning, Urahara says "You know, Sousuke, it is quite likely that you would be pardoned if I explained your role in all of this. You don't have to-" Cutting him off, Aizen says "Please don't give me false hope, Kisuke. You know as well as I that there's no more place for me in this world. Besides, after everything I did, I feel... tired." Sighing, Urahara draws Benihime and starts to weave a specially prepared kido around her blade. "Very well, Sousuke." Smiling, he says "Perhaps, in the next life, we should make the game of jan-ken to decide the villain best out of five in stead, hm?" Returning his smile, Aizen answers "Perhaps we will."

The preparation of the kido complete, Benihime almost seems to glow mournfully with a red light. "Farewell, my friend. I will remember you." Nodding, Aizen answers "Farewell, Kisuke, my brother. If I am reincarnated, I would like to have a friend like you again." Nodding, Urahara runs Benihime through Aizen's heart, the purpose-designed kido dissolving both Aizen's body and the hogyouku into reishi. Sheathing Benihime, Urahara takes off his hat for a minute before leaving as stealthily as he had arrived.
