A/N: This story is drastically different to my other one. This is the first time I've tried a serious fic so I do apologise if it's not that good. Please review to help me get better.
Anyway, I was dissatisfied with Steve's ending in Endgame. I feel it was a selfish choice and goes against Steve's character. So I made some personal improvements...
The cold winds of Vormir pushed hard against Steve Rogers. His usual stamina was vacant as he caught his breath after climbing the rigid mountain. But he had a job, and no rock was going to get in the way.
He opened his palm and looked deep into the orange stone. This was his final stone. His most personal stone. Natasha had given her life for this stone and he could sense her soul within its glow.
Over the past eleven years since they met, Nat had become the single most important person in his life. She was by his side in New York. Against Hydra. Sokovia. Helped him escape in Germany... lost together in Wakanda. But he wasn't there when she left. He was in another time. That was his greatest regret.
He had left his pocket watch on the doorstep of Peggy Carters home in 1945. He had always talked to Nat about moving on, he had to follow his own advice. He was going to move on with Nat, admit his feelings and see where things went. But he would never have the opportunity to.
"Steve Rogers, son of Sarah" a gritty, similar and sinister voice echoed. Descending from the rocks like a spectre was his greatest foe, the Red Skull.
"Schmit! HOW ARE YOU HERE!" His body began to boil with rage as he gripped mjolnir tightly.
"A curse bestowed upon my by the tesseract. I now gaurd the stone you carry" he said. The hatred that used to spew from his lips whenever he spoke to Steve was gone now. He was a broken soul. Good. "You wish to return the soul stone. No-one has willingly done that before. I have no knowledge of what will happen"
Steve ignored his presence and stepped towards the cliff that had taken Nat. He extended his arm over the fatal drop. Tears started to stream down his face as he hesitantly released his grip of the stone. He watched as the gem floated downwards.
He turned his back to the cliff as he made his way out. He wanted to get away from this hell. It only reminded him of her. He was shaken by a loud boom. He spun around to see orange beams in the sky. "What is happening!" He demanded to know.
"It appears the souls are being returned home" he said monotonously. Steve glared at him with hope in his eyes. "It appears her home... is you"
"Steve?" The super soldier spun around. How was this possible. It was Nat. He immediately pulled her in for a tight hug, wanting to feel close to her. "What's happening? I'm supposed to be dead?"
"No...no...your okay now. Your back. This is real life" he comforted her, stroking her hair. "The stone gave you back"
Natasha also began to weep. Recent events had began to overwhelm her and she was flooded with a sea of emotions. Her tough persona always seemed to break around Steve. "Can...can we go?" She asked wearily.
"Of course"

"Bring him back, Banner" Sam barked as he grew impatient and worried.
The green giant flicked away at the console. "I'm trying... but it is like there's two of him. Like there's two people returning" he explained, having no idea what is going on.
"What is that supposed to mean. If Steve split in half I'm blaming you" Sam shouted pointing a finger at Hulk. A massive flash of yellow, orange and blue light halted the nearing argument. Two figures appeared on the time machine. Their red and white suits collapsed as the inhabitants took a breath of relief.
"Natasha?" Banner asked in a quiet shock, stepping away from his console. Steve offered his hand to help her up. "How?" He asked looking at Steve.
"I'll explain later. First, she needs help" Steve chimed with a sense of worry in his shivering blue eyes.
She placed a hand on his chest, "I'm fine Steve, better than usual actually" she reassured him with a smile.
"Why's the hammer still here?" Buck finally inquired. Mjolnir rested by Steve's boot. Natasha glanced down at the Asgardian weapon. She didn't notice on Vormir. She was too busy being resurrected. A smile instantly lit up her face and she looked up into Steve's eyes.
"You lifted it!" She exclaimed in giddy eyes excitement pulling him into yet another hug. "I can't believe I missed that!"
"It was not that exciting. Thor almost died" a tear started to droop down his cheek. "Tony...Tony did... die"
Her happy face turned to a sorrowful one as tears fell from her emerald globes. "What! No... No...no, I died so he didn't have to. I died so he could be with his family" she said as she got angry. Steve pulled her close to him. Her crying face rested against his chest.
She started to calm down. She always did next to Steve. His large muscles tightened around her which brought her much comfort.

Steve called Clint and told him everything, this way he wouldn't be too shocked when he saw Nat. He did hear him sniffle a couple of times though. He also explained how he and Natasha needed a place to stay and Clint offered to house them until a new compound was built.
Steve and Nat took a Quinn-Jet to the farm where they were greeted by Clint and Laura. Clint pulled Natasha in close. He watched the women he considered to be his sister die and he was overwhelmingly happy to have her back.
They went inside the house. "Nat, your room is where you left it, you've got clothes in your wardrobe. Steve you can take the guess room. I don't think my clothes will fit you though" Clint explained. That was a problem. Steve was wearing his costume and all his clothes were lost or destroyed when Thanos destroyed the compound.
"Me and Laura can take him shopping tomorrow" Natasha added.
Steve and Clint both looked at her, concern across their faces. "No, Natasha, you should rest" Steve vocalised.
"No, Steve, I'm fine. Like I said better than ever" she said as she stormed upstairs.

It had been two weeks since Natasha and Steve has occupied the spare rooms of the Barton household. The sun was shining over the large property. Natasha was wearing clothes that she only let the people closest to her see. A white tank top which neatly stuck to her figure. She also wore gym pants which were also very tight. Her and Laura sat on the porch and watched as Steve through HIS hammer in the air so that Lila could use it as target practice.
The girls had taken him shopping as promised and bought him his usual attire of t shirts that were a tiny bit too small. Seeing his muscular form was always a good view. Natasha stared at Steve as he launched the hammer high into the sky.
"Like something you see, Nat?" Laura asked with a grin on her face.
"What? No. No... no" she stumbled before finally shutting up and returning to silence. "Okay yes. Laura! I think I'm in love!"
"That much is obvious" Laura laughed taking a swig of lemonade. Clint made his way to them and left Steve to practice with Lila.
"What are we talking about?" He asked.
"Nats in love!"
Clint also grinned. It's about time, he thought to himself. "When I came back, the red skull said that the freed souls returned home. But I returned to where I died. With Steve"
Clint slumped down on the chair next to Laura. "How much do you trust Steve?" He asked
"With my life" she answered.
"More than me?" He asked again.
"More than you" she answered bluntly.
"You're in love Nat" he said cracking open a beer.
She smiles as she glances back over at Steve. "I'm in love!" The Barton's looked at the Nat as if she was a love struck teen.
That night she watched as Steve stared at the hammer by a fire he had built during the day. She walked over and handed him a beer. "You were probably supposed to return that" she joked.
He took the beer from her hand with a thankful smile. "I will, eventually. But I feel like I will need it, after I give the shield away" he admitted.
She sat down on the grass next to him. "Your giving the shield away?" She queried placing a hand on his shoulder. He nodded but didn't expand on his thoughts. Natasha understood. Giving his mantle up must have been a tough and deeply personal decision. He had been Captain America for close to a century after all.
"Do you remember before when we talked about moving on?" He asked
"Of course"
"Well when returning the stones, I went back to '45 and I stood outside her house", her fingers interlocked with his and squeezed trying to comfort him. "I could've stayed. Lived a whole life. But I didn't. Shes going to get married, have kids and form S.H.I.E.L.D. I couldn't jeopardise that"
"And do you think you made the right choice?" She breathed.
"Yes... but that's because it wasn't the only reason I couldn't stay" he turned his head away from the fire and looked at her. "I also am in love with someone else..."
She smiled and drew herself closer to him. He lowered his head to meet hers as he placed his lips on hers. Her free hand cupped his cheek as she began to deepen the kiss. Years of built up love burst in their mouth as they shared a firey kiss.
Meanwhile in the kitchen, the Barton parents erupted into cheers as they watched the two avengers finally embrace for the first time. "Thank god. I thought she was actually going to get with that Bruce guy!" Laura scoffed.
"That was a weird phase. She was probably just trying to hide her feelings for Steve" Clint predicted. They watched as Steve and Nat made their way back to the house. "We got to go" Clint exclaimed pulling his wife upstairs. They entered the master bedroom to pretend they weren't spying. But they only heard one door close.
"Holy shit, they're going to fuck" Laura blurted.
"Come on, please don't say that, that's like my sister!" Clint gasped. But then the floor started to shake and they began to hear soft moans.
This time Laura pulled Clint downstairs and out the door. "Lets give them some privacy" she said as she lead them to the bench with a wine bottle.
"Privacy... that's our house" Clint cried.
To be continued.
