"Arkytior"

It was the middle of ships night when two year old Arkytior crawled into bed with her parents. She had heard the unmistakeable sound of a Dalek, she was sure of it. Well, pretty sure. But one could never be to careful when it came to Daleks. At least that was what her daddy had said. And she had never seen a Dalek so she was really just being cautious. The clever Time Tot thought as she carefully settled herself between her parents. She accidentally elbowed her daddy in the side, making him sit bolt upright, sonic already in hand. Arkytior squealed and moved back wards, bumping into her mummy in the process. River Song groaned and addressed The Doctor in an annoyed yet affectionate tone."Put the sonic away sweetie. It's only Arkytior." The Doctor blushed in emberassment and set the sonic aside then turned to face Arkytior.

"Are you alright Darling? I'm sorry I scared you." he said, his tone concerned.

"I'm alright Daddy. But I heard a Dalek! It sounded mean, and nasty, and I got away just in time!" she exclaimed. Miming her best Dalek face. The Doctor shot River a glance.

"I'm sure it was nothing sweet hearts. Me and mummy would never let anyone hurt you." The TARDIS nudged him telepathically. "Of course, The TARDIS wouldn't either. So you're safe."

"I know." Arkytior mumbled. "But I'm still scared." the young child looked close to tears.

"Oh don't cry darling! You can stay with us tonight. Right Mummy?" he looked at River hopefully.

"Of course she can. Lie down my little rose, mummy and daddy will protect you." River replied with a loving smile. Arkytior instantly obeyed, snuggling between her parents. River wrapped her up in her arms and The Doctor gently took her small hand in his own. Arkytior smile sleepily and closed her eyes, quickly falling back to sleep. Her parents smiled at her and leaned in for a quick kiss before laying back down and falling asleep themselves. And there was no fear of Daleks for quite a while after.
