It is the year 2093. In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, deep ocean sonar was deep in the ocean. Searching for something that had been lost for over eighty years and they finally found the ship to retrieve it from. In 2013 the ship called the SS Serena was set to take off. No one knew what would come when that ship set sailed. Not even the two girls this story is about.
The sonar went deep into the Serena, only to find to scraps of old furniture and peeling of paint from the once beautifully decorated walls. Then they reached a room. Specifically room 811. The sonar tore apart a drawer and out spilled jewels and a pictures. The man controlling the sonar hurried to his radio. "George, I think we found it. I think we found the bracelet."
Back on surface in the small town of Lima, Ohio, a girl around the age of twenty three was flipping channels and then stopped on a certain news station. There was a picture of a blonde girl in a cheerleaders outfit with a brunette Latina girl. The Latina girl and the blonde were sitting close together in the picture. They almost looked like best friends. The girl watching the screen immediately recognized one of them.
Pausing the television, she got up and ran to the back yard patio. "Grandma, I have to show you something now." The older woman, who was sitting on a bench turned and looked at her granddaughter. "Oh, Sugar. I'm still feeding Lord Tubbington the eighth but I guess this could wait." With help from her granddaughter, she got up from the bench and headed back inside to the living room.
"Now what is so important you had to drag me in here for?" The older woman asked, before looking up at the television screen. "Grandma Britt, you're on the news." The younger woman explained. Brittany looked up at the screen to see her from eighty years ago on the television screen. She walked towards the television and placed her hand on the screen.
"Tana…." She mumbled, feeling her throat close up from the memories that flashed in her mind. "Sophia, go call that number. Now." Sophia ran to the phone and began dialing. A small smile came to Brittany's now wrinkled face. "My Tana…"
No later than two days, Brittany and Sophia arrived on the main ship that had the picture. The two were ushered to the main room where the head of the search would speak to them along with the sonar guy. As he explained how the SS Serena sank, Brittany only thought about what she remembered. The laughs, the tears, everything. " So can you tell us what happened? Ma'am?" Brittany was broken out of her thoughts and nodded. "It was like yesterday…except it was over eighty years ago." Brittany laughed a bit. "You don't have to tell us now, if it's to hard.…" George said, sitting in a chair. " No…it's not. I've told this story a thousand times in my mind and now I can finally say it." Taking a deep breath, Brittany closed her eyes. She took a moment to prepare herself.
"It was eighty years ago when I boarded the Serena. They called it the ship of dreams and it really was. "Brittany took another breath. "It was probably one of the greatest love stories and I was part of it. It was my story." Sophia sat down and rested a hand on her grandmother's shoulder. "Is this how you met Grandpa Sam?" Brittany shook her head and let out a weak laugh.
"No….I knew Sam before this all happened. I loved your grandfather, he was a good man but…I will always love my Tana. Proudly So." She looked over at the photo, feeling tears spring in her eyes.
Come on, Britt…We can't be late. Berry will have our asses if we don't hurry.
" Wait for me San…."
