Alfons stared, morosely, at the drink that was in front of him.
He heard the snickers, and muttering about the young man, that had arrived at the bar before he saw his ex-roomate.
Edward strolled over, casually, and sat down by Alfons.
"You look a lot better than the last time, that I saw you." Ed told him, honestly.
Ed's hand sported a brand new engagement ring, or atleast brand new to Alfons.
"How's your brother?" Alfons asked, pointedly, ignoring his friend's new ring.
"He's fine. He seems to be adjusting to this world." Ed said, casually. "He married a little Chinese girl named May."
"Who'd you marry?" Alfons asked; the curiousity was killing him.
"The alternate to a mechanic friend of mine." Ed answered.
"What is she like? Your wife - I mean." Alfons stammered.
"Her name's Winifred, and she has blond hair, and blue eyes." Ed looked away, after he described her appearance.
"She sounds pretty." Alfons responded, dejectedly.
"She is." Ed answered, simply.
'And safe.' Alfons added, mentally.
"Al, always, thought that I loved Winry, anyway." Ed reasoned.
Alfons stared at the wall, knowing that it was hopeless; it had always been, even when Ed had taken care of him, when he had almost died of T.B.
He remembered the day, that Ed had left for good, as Ed got up, and walked out the door of the bar.
-Flashback-
"I don't want my brother, Al, to see us! It could never have lasted, anyway!" Ed had yelled, when he had ran outside with all his personal belongings.
Alfons had, briefly, wondered, if Ed had realized, that he was following in his father's footsteps.
Alfons had stumbled in to the house, where he had broken down crying.
Since then, Alfons went to that bar, every night to drown his sorrows in alchohal.
He figured that that's how Edward had found him.
