BALLAD FOR FRUITS BASKET
A trio of animals, all in one house—
The orange-haired cat, black dog and white mouse.
Humans in truth, mammals when "huggled,"
The strange new girl was confuddled, befuddled.
She appeared in their lives after her tent
Was buried, the supposedly tough fabric rent.
She was sweet and kind, giving and generous,
Her smiled made her seem oblivious, oblivious. Well...she is.
The isolated cat, scorned as a fool,
The purple-eyed mouse, his attitude cool,
Both fell in love with this girl, their guest
And both tried to prove themselves as the best.
Through fighting and bickering, yelling and anger,
Both held onto her as their anchor.
But she had to choose one, cat and mouse get along?
It would never happen, so to whom would she belong?
"Don't fight over me, I'm not worth it," she'd say.
But they both kept trying, night and day.
The mousey prince would charm her to blushing,
All the red blood, to her face rushing.
So how did the carrot-top try for her love?
He met her by falling from the ceiling above.
Kyo's rude, callous manner made him seem undesirable
But Tohru, the girl, managed to find him admirable.
In the end she fell for the neko, the cat.
How did "Prince Yuki," so sensitive, react?
His purple eyes dimmed, his hair lost its shine,
"I'm so sorry that you can't be mine."
I'd like to say they lived happily ever after,
Aside from the occasional *cough* snake in the rafter. (lame, ne?)
Poor Yuki, once desolate, grew cheery again.
Maybe it's 'cuz he's got a cute girlfriend. ^_~
Hot-tempered Kyo, around Tohru so meek,
Doesn't hate life so much (sans leek).
Tohru's still sweet, but sparkles more than ever—
"I found my true love, and guess what, he's the cat, mother!"
