In the beginning there was nothing. Pure and undiluted blankness that stretched forth to infinity. This was Chaos. The void that spanned the universe. From Chaos came forth Erebus and Nyx, darkness and night. From night were born Aether and Hemera, Light and Day. Then from the Void came a golden egg. From the egg was born Eros, love. One half of the shell rose into the air and became the sky, the other became the Earth. Eros named the sky Uranus and the Earth he named Gaia. From Gaia came the nine realms. Then he made them fall in love.
This union produced many children, but none so fearsome as the Titans. Their king, Kronos, feared that his children, the gods, would overthrow him. So after each child was born he would order his wife to feed him the child. When Zeus was born his wife hid the baby, giving Kronos a rock to devour instead. When Zeus grew he gave his father a foul mix of mustard and wine, causing Kronos to regurgitate his children. Zeus' siblings, being immortal gods, had continued to grow unharmed inside his stomach. They over threw Kronos, and Zeus sliced him to pieces with his own scythe, before throwing the bits into Tarturus.
The mortals worshiped the gods as their saviors and creators. But everything changed when the Aesir came to Earth from the realm Asgard. The mortals of the North began to stray from the Olympians, worshipping the Aseir instead. The Aesir were not gods. They were talented in magic and had powers no mortal could have. Powers that were nearly equal to the Olypians. When Zeus met with Odin, demanding Odin leave Earth, Odin refused. He was horrified that these gods, these beings, had interfered so intimately with life on Earth, as well as life on Asgard and on all the other realms. A great war began. However, when the Frost Giants of Jotunheim attacked Midgard, the Aesir and Olympians formed a truce, they would work together to stop the beasts.
With the Frost Giants defeated the Olympians and the Aesir reached an agreement. The Olympians would cease to interfere on Asgard, and the Aesir would leave Earth forever. Erebus would serve as the ambassador of the Olympians. She would spend the rest of her existence traveling the darkness between the worlds, observing Aesir life but never interfering. Making sure the Aesir did not come to Earth, and making sure the Olympians stayed away from Asgard.
