He bit his lip as she entered the Great Hall, listening to his sister Ginny with the same dreamy expression on her features. He watched as they parted ways and studied her as he shoveled mashed potatoes into his mouth absently.
She wore a white blouse underneath an orange sweater and a flared jean skirt with sneakers. Underneath her arm was the hat she always wore to the Gryffindor Quidditch games and her blonde hair was pulled back into two pigtails, held by two white ribbons.
She reached into her cloak, pulling her copy of The Quibbler out, and began to read.
He wondered why she wore orange.
Later, as he celebrated with his House the victory of the game, he saw her sitting on the couch, beside his sister, eating an orange. He watched, fascinated as the juice slid over her pale pink lips and tore his gaze away, cheeks red with embarrassment…
He wasn't…falling for her, was he? No way, she was weird and odd and made him feel like he was talking to a wall whenever they spoke…
Denial is denial and Ronald Weasley was in DENIAL.
He avoided her as best as he could, figuring that if he didn't see her he wouldn't think about her and the way she ate an orange…
That evening as he sat down to eat his dinner, he noticed that she was nibbling at a mango…
"Eep," he said as he watched her open her mouth and bit the end of the mango off…
His best friends, Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, paused in their whispered conversation and eyed him strangely. Hermione opened her mouth to ask what was wrong but Ron let out a quick "I'mnothungryIthinkI'llgouptothelibrary!" before darting out the door.
Harry blinked and looked at Hermione. "What just happened?"
"I don't know," she answered blankly as they stared at the seat Ron had vacated.

Ron panted as he leaned against the wall, one hand bracing him on the brick and the other clutching his stomach. He groaned and dropped his head, muttering, "Damn. Now I'm going to starve…"
"Something wrong?" a dreamy voice said behind him.
Ron let out a shriek (a manly shriek mind you) of surprise and spun to face the girl who had been driving him mad for the last week.
Luna Lovegood.
"Hi," he finally said.
"Hello," she replied distractedly.
A silence fell.
Ron fidgeted and blurted out, "Why do you like mangoes?"
She looked at him for a moment with silvery eyes and shrugged. Luna tugged on her pigtail and said, "Why do you ask?"
"I was watching you eat," he said finally, reddening. "And you really seem to like them…"
Luna smiled slightly and looked up at the ceiling, as if thinking. Finally, she spoke.
"I like oranges," she said looking at him evenly. "But I love mangoes."
And Ron realized as Luna reached out with one hand that it didn't matter if she was weird or odd or he felt like he was talking to a wall sometimes…
She tasted like mangoes and that was all that mattered…
