It was a beautiful day. Flowers blooming, birds chirping, and such a lovely sunset. Idly sketching the sky while Jr played I got lost in thought. I remember being on this mountain when you were younger. Gramps would take me on picnics and tell such awesome stories about the legends of monsters and wars and all kinda of amazing tales that were kept alive with my boy. I hate to think how much I miss the old guy. He had a horrible stroke and it broke my heart to send him somewhere else for better care. He was the only dude that really took care of me after all. With my parents being "free spirits" to put it lightly. Yeah mom and pops sure had the run away life. Still I feel shitty for putting gramps in a home. With a sigh breaking my thoughts I picked my self up and stretched for a moment calling to my love.
"Jamie, time to go sweetheart. "
looking around for a moment trying to stay calm when everything in my bones was screaming to go mad I noticed his back littering the beginning of an old path. Most wouldn't notice this path but since I grew up learning nature because that's all my folks cared about I learned a thing or two. What good is girl scouts anyways? Especially when you had parents that believed to be "one with the earth." Back on the important subject at hand. Searching the woods calling out again and again. I hope he didn't go far. My motherly instinct wouldn't let me quit even when the sun has since been gone for hours. Finally you find him. Your Jaimie...sitting on a cliff... Dear god.. No..
Trying to keep a soft soothing voice I called out to my son. I can not lose him. He's all I have good in the world.
"h-hey buckaroo, whatcha doing way out here?"
The brown haired boy with the sun tanned freckles and ice blue eyes smiles and looks back at you
"hiya mama, I saw pretty flowers down there, and cool rocks too!"
With a deep breath I edge closer and smile soothingly.. Well what I can only hope is soothing.
"hey! Thats awesome. Who would had known my boy would be such a botanist. Say... If you come home with me now we could garden tomorrow. Wouldn't that be cool?"
I edge closer with each step getting in an arms reach as he smiles at the thought.
"Sure mama. That would be like.. Suuuuper fun. We could plant sunflowers and carrots and pizza aaaand not broccoli aaaand hmmm... What else grows? OOoOOoo can I grow a baby brother?! Everyone says kids grow up so kids grow too. Can I mama!? Please oh pleeeeease?"
I nod desperately and smile doing anything to get him away from that ledge. He immediately jumps up and holds out his arms to me smiling. I graze his hand for a second but a vine seems to ensnare his ankle and his spark of joy is replaced immediately fear as he topples back into the depths of the abyss. Without any hesitation I throw myself over the edge and catch him as we fall gripping him tightly to my chest preparing for the impact sure to come I breath out. "it's going to be okay"
Jamie's pov
"mama?" Getting out of her arms carefully you look where she landed on her back against a patch of flowers you shake her shoulder.
"mama... You need to get up.. I'm sorry I ran off.. I wanted to find the monsters... I'm sorry mama... There's flowers mom.. Such pretty flowers... If you wake up you can see em..."
I looked around for anyone to help but didn't go to far. Softly I called for help but sighed as none came. I went back and curled up to my mothers side feeling her soft breathing hopeful that she's still alive.
"I'm gonna protect you mom. Like you protected me. Nothings gonna hurt you. I promise"
