A/N; Nooooo. Why did I too fall in love with this ship that was destined to end in tragedy? It was all Peter Jackson's fault, naturally. If he had just stuck to the canon book we wouldn't be in this predicament. But then again we wouldn't have all this wonderful character development and yet another reason to think Kili is the most awesome of all the dwarves.
So here is my contribution (for now). I was going to write one about Legolas talking to Gimli about Tauriel and Kili but somebody already did that, and did a much better job than I could have. So I just drabbled this - a what if Tauriel survives the next movie (which I doubt she will). But here we go, have some angst.
Summary: Tauriel has nothing but despair and the hope that one day she will have faded away too, like a wilting flower longing for death. Kiliel angst, speculation of Tauriel does not die.

Waiting to Fade Away

She wished that she could have protected him for an eternity. To have kept him safe for as long as she could have. But fate did not intend it... and fate was crueller still, she went on and he did not. She was condemned with only the memory over centuries of an unfulfilled life span - hanging on that one moment that she felt truly alive.
Condemned. Condemned to wander. Condemned to be without a home.
Mirkwood no longer held anything for her. Ghostly memories of a time past. He was there too, the memory of him lingering, even though he had only been there a short while. She could not go back to that, she could not be subject to the constant stream of regret. She could not slide so easily back into the life she knew and she refused to let go as if knowing him had never happened.
Grief was her constant companion. Although she did not often shed tears, excepting when she would gaze up at the stars, no longer a source of anything but despair.
She hid in the shadows. She would help those who crossed through the forest, hiding on the outskirts, a silent helper that nobody knew. She was just waiting for the time where she would eventually perish too, but even time had become her enemy.
Tauriel once ventured to his previous homeland, she had to see for herself, but she knew that even there she couldn't be accepted. Or maybe she just couldn't let herself. She wasn't quite sure which it was.
She was waiting to fade, to be no more, and she no longer counted the days, each was an inconvenience to her... she was merely existing.
Thinking back to what he had said, when she had determined to save his life and did, it all seemed a little ironic now. For it was not her that walked in starlight, it was Kili who was walking in starlight eternally, just out of her grasp.
They had kissed, one time, just before his soul was claimed. A kiss that bound them. A memory so close and yet so distant that haunted her continually.
His life was a mere flicker in the scheme of things, but in the instant that he died, she died too, and eventually her body too would catch up to that truth. And she will have faded truly, embracing the light and embracing her love.

I do want to write more of them.
They're beautiful together.
