Moonlight: The Light the Moon casts.
Lake Hylia was a beautiful place, with drops from the waterfall like diamonds falling from the sky, the moonlight casting a gentle glow on the water's surface; the only thing really missing from this idyllic scene was someone he could usually count on to appear.
Link.
Neither of them got much time away from their respective homes to visit each other. Most of the time, their meetings were fleeting and unsatisfying. Sheik, on more than one account, had to hide in the Shadow Temple to make sure no one saw the suspicious displacement in his pants.
Well, the food in the basket was getting cold and the blanket had yet to be placed. Maybe he would show up. Maybe his Guardian, The Great Deku Tree, had him on an errand. Bah, no fun!
Sheik took the blanket out and spread it out, straightening it and putting the basket in the middle. He looked around the lake, and with a sigh, plopped onto the ground. If Link didn't show up in the next ten minutes-
"Sorry I'm late! *huff* I had to do something for Saria. *Huff* Who knew she could be such a stickler?" Link walked to the blanket and fell to his knees before hitting the ground face first with a huff. Sheik snickered at the blond's actions.
"So, anything I need to know, like if you are only here for a minute or two?" Link shook his head as he looked up at the Sheikah. It was apparent that the younger warrior was amused at the Hylian's antics and the Link thought of a plan to rectify that. He suddenly rolled to his side and grabbed Sheik's hands before the Sheikah could flinch. The two started to wrestle around, one trying to best the other and getting on top.
It took a minute for the two to finally get tired, Link plopping next to Sheik and both staring at the moon.
"Do you think we were meant to meet at the Hyrule Castle Plaza? Because every time I look at you, I feel like we've met before. And for some reason, I feel that I have to prove to you that I'm me. Not someone else." said Link in a thoughtful tone. Sheik nodded in agreement.
"I know how you feel, like I'm expecting you to change into something else. I don't even know why. Maybe you should ask the Deku Tree why that is. I can ask the spirits in the Shadow Templeā¦" Link sighed.
"Or we can kiss and make it slow. I'm allowed to be out and about all night, as long as Navi can find me and tell me what I need to do. And she gets annoying when you ignore her. Plus, I want to enjoy the time that we have, strange feelings be damned." Sheik laughed alittle, remembering the last time he met the little fairy, before nodding with the rest of Link's statement. It would be just silly if they let some unexplained emotion rule over them like a black storm cloud.
And besides, Link did say 'all night'.
The Sheikah looked at Link's face as he returned to looking at the sky, the moon's pale light illuminating the Hylian's features and making the blue of his eyes seem to glow. He wondered if the moon's light made his eyes glow like that, like they were full of love and adoration.
"Are my eyes like yours?" asked Sheik,
"Yes. They glow by the moon's light. And let the moon be our witness to us proving that we are who we are now, not beasts of the past, nor heroes of the future. And I want to be with you. No one else." Sheik smiled and both leaned in to kiss the other, letting their fear and insecurities float away.
The moon casts no glares or judgments on those it claims at its own. And the three Goddesses wouldn't have it any other way.
