Laurel closed her eyes, fighting back the tears that were threatening to pour down her cheeks. She had been working on a memory elixir for months, but all of the time she spent on perfecting the enchantment had not prepared her for this moment.
Tonight, she would take away the most important moments of David's life.
He had come to her and Tamani during the winter and had begged Laurel to use her abilities to save him from the pain he was experiencing everyday since the Avalon gate closed to the four of them for the last time. He came to the faerie couple to remove the memories that had haunted him for last several years. Laurel refused the moment he asked her, but over time Tamani had slowly persuaded her, telling her that it was best for David.
"David, you cannot expect me to do this to you," Laurel continued, "You are one of my closets friends and I-"
"That is exactly why I am asking you to this for me!"
"I can't do this to you," Laurel choked out.
"Laurel, I want to love Rose, I want to be the husband she deserves and keeping these secrets from her," David said in soft voice, "It will kill me."
"I can't- I-" Laurel stumbled on her words.
"Please Laurel," David begged her.
"Don't make me me do this to you David!"
Tamani who had been silent up until then wrapped an arm around Laurel to calm her, "I know you don't want to do this, but David shouldn't have to live with this for the rest of his life."
Laurel began to cry then, "If I do this you'll forget about Avalon, faeries, and us."
David looked into her eyes, "I loved every moment I spent with you guys," he smiled a little, "Except telling my mother I was going elope with you but chickened out the morning we got back."
Laurel smiled although she was still crying and Tamani grinned and said, "I'm so glad that never happened by the way."
David continued, "We had the greatest adventures, but I need to move on like you all did years ago."
"He should have a choice Laurel," Tamani added in while brushing some of her tears away with his thumb.
"Look at you guys," She said, "You used to hate each other and now your on the same side!"
"Well he's not your boyfriend anymore, so now I can stand him," Tamani joked.
Laurel giggled and then her face became serious again, "David, are you sure you want this?"
"Yes," David replied causing Laurel to cry and Tamani comforted her.
The next months she spent as much time as she could making changes to the elixir so it would be perfect for David. When she believed that it was almost complete, she talked to David and he made her promise not to tell Chelsea. He told the two faeries that he had wrote about their teenage lives and sent a copy of the book to her along with a letter that explained everything.
When David went to his friends house for the last time, he had almost backed out of his decision. Laurel was thrilled, but then he decided to go forward. Tamani was there the whole time holding her hand while tears streaked her face. We talked for a long time and when it was time, David hugged Tamani and kissed Laurel goodbye on the cheek.
She brought him a vial that held a gold shimmery liquid and he reached out for it, realizing that his hands were shaking. Laurel hugged him quickly one last time, while Tamani clasped his shoulder. David took a deep breath, whispered goodbye to his best friends, and lifted the glass up to his lips.
