She was coming for me. I could feel her.

Just in case, I gripped my knife in my hand, ready for any attack. It was down to just the five of us.

Suddenly, I heard a twig snap. A small scream escaped from between my lips and I grabbed my pack and ran, as far as I could through the plains, towards the ruined city, about a mile away. Bricks and stones were sticking out of the ground every step I took, and jumping over them was a task, so I decided to stop wasting energy and rest. I relied on the tall grass to take my cover.

One thing went wrong, however. My water was steadily dripping from behind me, and I was too late to realize it. In a matter of seconds, someone would be there for me. I grabbed the water bottle and threw it across the field as I started to run again. Step, step, step, step…

I tripped. I knew my life was over. And, after a few moments, I heard a rustling sound.

"Who's there?" I whispered. "Who's there!" I said louder. The rustling stopped.

It was too quiet.

"Miss me?" a mysterious voice said from behind. I whipped around, staring directly into the eyes of Andrea—the one from Area 1.1, who was bound to win. I couldn't move—she pinned me to the ground.

"You know, for a second there I thought you would get away, and then I realized I'm too good," she said with her ice-cold voice and her devilish smile. She took out her small dagger. "You won't get away from me again."

What she didn't know is that my knife was right below her stomach, and that in 3.76 seconds I would drive it up her stomach, into her heart. The blood ran over my hand, and spread over my body, and soon I was bathing in her blood, and I started to drown…

I woke up screaming.

"What's the matter?" said my mother, holding my knife in her hand.

"Just another nightmare, nothing much," I said, pulling my blankets over my head. My mother pulled them down.

"Today is the day, Rada, you're going to the Games. You were Selected." She started to cry.

I sat up straight in my bed. "Why the hell did you not tell me earlier?"

"Because y-y-you were sleeping, and I—I figured y-y-you ne-needed your sleep," my mom said through several sniffs and tears.

"I can sleep on the way to Capitol in Colorado."

"You mean Denver, sweetie?"

I glared at my mother. "Yes I mean Denver. I don't know what's wrong with me. It's the 50th Hunger Games and I'm going into it with double the people the kill. I'm scared for my life!" I lied back down, feeling like there was no hope left.

"On the bright side, you might like who your partner is."

I curiously stared at her. "Who?"

She smiled.

"Cato."
