"Breathe Me"

"Hold your breath." Roman told me, and then he grabbed my hand and we ran as the heat and power of the explosion erupted behind us.

At some point I didn't look back then we were just over the edge of the lake and the next thing I knew we were submerged as fire, in a rich red and orange display, licked at the surface of the water.

Roman was still holding on to me, tightly enough that he knew where I was, but loosely enough that I could move around. For a while we just hung there under the water staring at each other, Roman's markings glowing eerily in the water, then he touched his fingers to his lips before touching them to mine and then he leaned forward; our mouths coming together softly.

It was then something strange happened I stopped feeling like my lungs were going to burst and I just hung there in the water my mouth fused with Roman's, who seemed to be taking in oxygen for us both. However, I knew we couldn't last like that forever even as we clung to each other-suspended.

Once the danger had passed we surfaced, me still gasping for the air I so desperately needed.

"Are you alright?" Roman asked as he bent towards me his ice blue eyes instantly gentle and concerned.

"Yeah…" I managed, even as I was still trying to catch my breath.

He was still standing close and heading yet moved away. Instinctively I reach for him my fingers coming to rest gently on the side of his neck and then everything happened slowly as if I were dreaming. I bit my lip, unsure of what was going to happen, or of what I even wanted.

The kiss was slow at first, tentative and cautious and then Roman was pushing back, his lips crashing into mine, as he pulled me closer, holding me tighter. I pressed against him, I didn't want to let him go.

Finally I pulled away still gasping, once again Roman had managed to steal my breath, but in a totally good way. Then he was leaning in again, he didn't even have to ask and I met him halfway, the second kiss just as passionate as the first. Just as Roman pulled away there was a rustling in the bushes and Drake appeared the expression on his face a mixture of relief and surprise.

"Oh good, you're alive, I thought you were dead."

Roman nodded.

"Yeah we're good." His face was impassive and he didn't smile, but at the moment I knew he didn't want to give himself away; his fingers still gripping my elbow as they had been moments before. The three of us turned towards the woods, it was time to go home. At the moment I didn't even care about the status of my relationship with Grayson. My heart was, and had always been Roman's… Ever since we were six years old.
