My last Breath

Hold on to me love,

Time stopped as I looked around the war zone looking for some shred of hope, all I found was the polar bear lumbering towards me.

You know I can't stay long

I looked away from the murdering polar bear's face, into his eyes. I knew he saw the tear that was threatening to fall.

All I wanted to say was I love you and I'm not afraid,

I turned away and looked defiantly back at the polar bear, as though I was invincible.

Can you hear me? Can you feel me in your arms?

I remembered the last time we hugged. It wasn't an awkward hug, like the ones we had shared before. This time we were clinging to each other and hoping against hope that somehow we'd get through this.

Holding my last breath
Safe inside myself
Were all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light
It ends here tonight

I started summoning my courage, trying not to look at him.

I'll miss the winter

I remember how much fun we all had on the day of the snowball fight. No matter how cold it got we wouldn't, couldn't, stop. I smiled at him, "Sure you can hit me Tobias?"
"I'm a hawk, Rachel. I have lightning-quick reflexes," and while I paused to laugh he threw a small snowball at my face.
I spit out some snow. "Is that the best you can do?" I reached into a mound of snow behind me and hit him, full on, in the leg. He buckled. I immediately went running towards him.
"Are you ok?"
He looked at me, "Everything is fair in love and war." He got up and started chasing me.

The world, a fragile place

"Look Tobias." I pointed to an icicle hanging from a tree branch. He reached for it and it fell shattering into a million, glistening pieces.
"Aren't you Mr. Graceful?" I laughed

Look for me in the white forest hiding in a hollow tree, come find me

"Rachel? Rachel! Come on this isn't funny anymore!"
"It was to me." I said slyly from behind a tree. I came out and looked into his eyes. "You were really worried weren't you? Well, that just takes the fun out of everything."
He smiled and gave me a soft kiss.

I know you hear me. I can taste it in your tears.

My mind zapped back to reality. I glanced back to Tobias again. His eyes had started watering.

Holding my last breath
Safe inside myself
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light
It ends here tonight

Closing your eyes to disappear.

He closed his eyes and unleashed his tears.

You pray you're dreams will leave you here.

It wasn't supposed to happen this way. I mentally started praying that some miracle would take me to him.

But still you wake and know the truth. No one's there.

I felt the cold air on my arms and legs. 'This isn't a dream, Rachel' I thought, 'You have to face this.'

Say goodnight.
I looked at him one last time
Don't be afraid
I tried to smile, for him
Calling me, calling me as you fade to black.
He looked back at me, pleading with his eyes.
"I love you, Rachel."
His voice filled my head, I took my last breath.
