This is a short story I wrote about my favorite character from B. 'Lizabeth's novel Real Werewolves Stay Indoors: Book 1.
A Surprise Party
"I hate shopping," Jack says as he and Katydid walk towards the door to the supermarket.
"Well," says Katydid, "we have to get some decorations for Gus's party."
They go up the aisles, looking for decorations. Jack picks up some party hats.
"Do we need these?" he asks.
"How much do they cost?" asks Katydid. Jack looks around for the price.
"$3.45," he answers.
Katydid looks at them for a moment then says, "we don't need them."
Jack puts them back on the shelf and looks at her. "So what exactly are we looking for?" he asks.
"Some banners," answers Katydid, "balloons, and we also need a cake."
They continue to walk up and down the aisles and finally find everything they need.
I can't wait," says Katydid with a big smile, "to see the look on Gus's face when we yell 'Surprise!"
Jack really thinks this is a silly idea, but he doesn't say anything because he doesn't want Katydid to get mad. "So where did Gus go while we're shopping?"
"Houston took him to the zoo," answers Katydid.
They both go back to Jack's house and start to decorate. Maddi knocks on the door and Katydid rushes to answer it.
"Hey!" she says.
"Hey!" says Maddi, looking around at the decorations, "Can I help?"
"Yeah," Jack says as he walks to the door. So they all start to decorate. As soon as they finish, the guests begin to arrive. There's Gregory, Biggs, Jacqueline, and a lot more people.
Then, Houston comes up to the door and everyone hides. Houston slowly opens the door, holding Gus in his arms. Everyone screams, "Surprise!"
Houston puts Gus down and the goat begins to run around. He's so happy. Every gift he gets he chews on. He even eats a whole cake by himself! This is a birthday he'll never forget!
The End!
