A/N
So this idea came to me when I realized no one seemed to acknowledge 9/11 this year. And though I didn't lose anyone but it still makes me sad that no one seemed to think about the families that where affected. This is for anyone who lost someone on 9/11. God bless.
Steve sighed as he slowly woke up, slowly stretching his limbs as he lay in bed. Standing up Steve stretched again before asking,
"Jarvis what time is it?"
"It is seven twenty-three A.M. sir," Jarvis replied with his smooth British accent. AT first the voice in the walls had bothered Steve, but after living in the tower for three months he'd gotten used to it. As Steve walked into the living room he realized in a few days he would have been out of the ice for a year. It was a bittersweet moment, it had been almost a year since he'd been fighting HYDRA to save the world, but to everyone else it was closer to seventy years. Steve entered the living room and was surprised to see everyone was already awake.
"Morning," Steve greeted cheerfully, frowning when he was meet with halfhearted 'good mornings' in reply.
"Is something wrong?" Steve asked slowly, worry evident on his face.
"You're kidding right?"
"When did they dig you out of the ice?" Tony asked looking serious.
"I woke up on September 20th…" Steve said slowly.
"That was last year right?" Tony asked.
"Yes," Steve agreed.
"Why didn't Fury tell you?" Tony muttered.
"Tell me what?" Steve demanded.
"About 9/11," Tony replied, "I mean last year was the ten year anniversary, it was huge. Everyone was talking about it, making YouTube videos, Facebook posts. It was insane!"
"And this year everyone seems to have forgotten," Clint spat, "it's disgusting!"
"9/11?" Steve asked, still confused.
"When two plans took out the World Trade Center," Tony explained.
"The what?" Steve asked.
"You went under before they were built… and got dug out after they were destroyed…" Tony muttered, "You wouldn't know anything about that…"
"What happened?" Steve asked getting nervous.
"Basically terrorists hijacked four passenger plans and crashed two of them into the world trade center the other crashed into the Pentagon but the last plan the passengers crashed in Pennsylvania when they realized what was happening. Over two thousand people were killed." Steve stood there, unable to say anything, horror struck. When Steve found his voice he croaked,
"How… I mean… Why did everyone stop caring?"
"Beats me," Clint muttered darkly.
"Clint?" Steve asked worried. Clint glared at the Captain for a minute before sighing dejectedly and saying,
"It's just… my parents died when I was very young and here… it's a day where thousands of children lost parents or became orphans and they don't even care. It just hits a sore spot for me."
"Just because everyone else forgot doesn't mean we have to," Steve informed Clint sitting down next to the archer. Clint looked over at Steve and agreed,
"Yea, we'll remember them."
