Paul LaHote was 24. Jacob Black was 18. Regardless of whether or not the imprinting process respected age differences or not, they had undergone the werewolves own process of imprinting and were in love with each other. It was weird kind of relationship though. Because sometimes Paul would be teased by the seven years younger Jacob and get mad. His temper wasn't much help in these situations.

They shared a house together. An apartment in La Push. Paul had gone out to collect some fresh coast side fish for dinner that night and was coming back home. Jacob was watching Paul walk up the pathway and laughing at him.

" What's so funny?"

Jacob gasped for breath having no air left.

"You look like such a c-"

Paul threw a fish straight as Jacob Black's head and he ducked out of the way laughing harder. Paul threw the other fish and missed breaking the glass of a window in the process. He turned around and went back the way he came as Jacob looked up and sighed because the joke had been so funny to him. But it was hurtful to Paul.

"Where are you going?" Jacob asked but Paul didn't hear him. Jacob got louder now "WHERE ARE YOU GOING?"

Paul didn't turn around. Jacob jumped out the window and chased him down.

"Paul wait! Wait!"

He was at the shoreline of the coast and there was a boat there with a ship captain and people aboard it.

Jacob realized what this meant when he saw Paul standing in the front having just gotten aboard the boat himself.

After the boat left Paul would be gone forever.

Jacob didn't want that.

" No! Come back!" he cried making his voice as loud as he could. "PAUL! COME BACK!"

Tears were flooding his eyes and running down his face. Jacob's heart hurt.

" DON'T LEAVE ME! I;M SORRRYYY!"

Paul stayed where he was as the boat waned further and further away from Jacob.

" I'm sorry!"

The boat dipped twored the horizon and Jacob covered his face and cried harder.

"How am I supposed to live?" Jacob wondered even though he knew paul couldn;t hear him.
