Rita was working on her paperwork in the dining room at home, since she hadn't wanted to finish it at work, whilst Iain was on her computer in the living room. The couple had both agreed not to spend any longer at work than necessary that week, since both of them had fallen into the habit of working late and not coming home until 2 or 3 hours after the end of their shifts.

The boring mountains of paperwork that Rita had to go through would probably take her the rest of her life to complete, and that would be without any distractions, but there was always something – often in the form of Iain Dean.

As if on cue Iain shrieked from the other room, sounding as if he was in pain.

Terrified, Rita ran into the living room, only a few paces away from where she was sat, to help her boyfriend.

Iain was stood on the computer chair, which was actually just one of the chairs from the dining room table, with the computer mouse held in his right hand. Nothing in the room, or on the computer, looked out of the ordinary.

"Are you okay?! What happened?!" Rita stayed in the doorway of the living room, fearful that if she entered the room that she might be at risk, although she wasn't sure what of, since she couldn't see any problems at all.

"I caught a mouse!" Iain shouted, grinning as he finished speaking, waving the computer mouse in the air, trying to stay steady on the chair to avoid a real emergency.

"Iain…I…Iain…" Rita was laughing too much to speak, realising that there was no threat whatsoever and that Iain was only having a joke. "Work to…do."

"I know, I just thought you'd need a quick distraction since there's so…" Iain trailed off, unable to continue speaking as he laughed harder and harder at the thought.

Rita crossed the room to help him down from the chair, fearful that he might fall off if he wasn't careful, and they both ended up in a laughing pile on the floor of Rita's living room, Iain continuing to wave the computer mouse in the air as best as he could.

Once the couple had finally calmed down they returned to their previous activities, both still giggling in amusement, much happier to continue their work now that they both had smiles on their faces, and something to laugh at for years to come.

Again, short but sweet. I'm going away tomorrow so I probably can't do 4 one-shots in 4 days, as much as I would like to, but hopefully I will have some time during the week to write, since I enjoy it so much.
