Author Note: This is the first time I've ever written a fanfiction, maybe even the first time I ever wrote a story (I'm more of an essay-writer) so please tell me in the reviews anything I need to improve, and I'll do my best to improve my writing.
Disclaimer: PJO belongs to Rick Riordan, not me. Unless Rick Riordan is a twelve year old girl living in the middle of nowhere, in which case PJO still doesn't belong to me.
Calypso was bored on her island.
Sure, it had almost everything she could ever want, with the exception of company. The gods visited occasionally, but when you've been on the same island for millennia with the same visitors visiting once or twice a decade or so, it gets really boring.
Once a century, she'd get a mortal visitor - a hero who would steal her heart and then leave her forever. She'd have to forget her love for each hero before the next hero came along. And this time, the next hero wouldn't come along anytime soon, maybe never. Because she could never forget Leo Valdez.
She shook her head, trying to get Leo out of her mind, unsuccessfully. Leo was the only guy who landed on her island that she didn't fall in love with at first sight. Really, Calypso thought, it's hard to fall in love with a guy who crash-lands on your island and then sets to work trying to get away. Of course, she finally fell for him and then he left, as all heroes do.
He said he'd come back. Calypso was still waiting. But she knew he wouldn't come back. No hero ever came back. Leo wouldn't come back either...
But Calypso still had hope. With each moment, she got closer to giving up waiting, but she'd still packed up her bags and stood at the edge of the island, searching for any sign of Leo Valdez.
She was getting tired of waiting.
She had no idea how long it had been since Leo had left. It felt like centuries had passed already. Most likely Leo would be dead by now. Or perhaps he met another girl and had forgotten all about her.
The sun set on Ogygia yet again, and she curled up on the sand, watching the waves wash against the shore. She never left the edge of the island anymore. She never walked around the island tending to her plants now (which didn't really matter because they couldn't die, like her).
She just stood there, waiting. Waiting for Leo to keep the promise that she was sure he would break.
No man could find Ogygia twice in their lifetime. It was enchanted that way. If you died and chose to be reborn, that would be your second life and perhaps you would have a chance of going back. But when that happened, it hurt worse than anything because the hero would never remember her, and she'd remember him.
Calypso refused to sleep. Leo dominated her dreams, and she got sick of waking up feeling hopeful every morning and then realizing that Leo had gone, maybe forever. She closed her eyes for a moment, remembering how Leo had looked. It had been so long - well, for her anyway - that he probably looked different now, and she'd never change. It would be awful if he came back with gray hair and wrinkles, leaning on a cane. But Calypso knew that even if Leo was the oldest person in the world right now, she'd still love him the same.
A noise interrupted her thoughts. She felt hope fill her heart. Ogygia was silent most of the time, and this sound had to be Leo's arrival.
Remembering his crash-landing the last time he arrived, she snapped her eyes open and leaped to her feet - just in time, as Leo crashed to the ground. He hadn't changed - not much, anyway - and he looked as handsome as ever, although a bit scrawny.
She wanted to tell him off for making her wait so long, but she decided against it.
After all, some things are worth waiting for.
