Dark, growling pelts shown through the darkness, lit alight by the full moon overhead. Looking out from behind his mentor, Spiderpaw could see an ocean of glaring eyes all looking at the ThunderClan cats. One black figure was above them all, standing on the greatrock, his golden eyes piercing Kinkstar's pelt. The figure's claws were extended and he was facing their leader.
"Kinkstar, we know that ThunderClan has stolen one of our kits!" Shadestar growled through clenched teeth. Spiderpaw hid behind his mentor shaking, his green eyes looking around the clearing in panic. The moon above was still glowing brightly. How does StarClan approve? He thought to himself. The sound of arguing cats pierced Spiderpaw's thoughts. He lied down and covered his ears with his paws and closed his eyes, hoping the darkness would make him forget he was here.
Through his paws, he could here caterwauling. "ShadowClan, take a cat that is precious to them!" He heard the muffled call of Shadestar.
"Over my dead body!" Kinkstar yowled then it broke in to cries of pain and yowls. Spiderpaw could feel the ground shake as cats fought, but the moon was still shining. Spiderpaw slowly opened his eyes to see that his shield of fur was missing, only to be a few fox-lengths away fighting off two ShadowClan warriors, his claws glistening in the moonlight. Spiderpaw could smell the scent of blood and looked around, his head still on the floor of the clearing and his paws over his ears. He could see mates protecting one another, parents protecting their kin, and warriors protecting other warriors. Then Spiderpaw realized that no one was protecting him. The thought made him panic, then he felt himself being lifted by the scruff. He trashed and shook, trying to break free as his attacker pulled him through the brambles. Then the attacker let him go, Spiderpaw turned around and swiped blindly at the cat.
"Hey! Spiderpaw it's me!" Spiderpaw opened his eyes and saw his mother a tail length away, her long black pelt was glistening in the moonlight. A small scratch formed on her forehead where Spiderpaw had struck her.
"I'm so sorry!" he gasped and brushed up against his mother. She pulled away.
"You need to return to camp. It isn't safe for you here." Darkflower meowed, worry filling her green eyes. She paid no attention to the scratch on her forehead.
Spiderpaw nodded and brushed up against his mother, love filling him. Then he bolted in the direction of camp. His paws dug up soft forest floor until his lungs burned for air. When he felt safe, he stopped to rest by an old tree stump which was half-way to the ravine. He gasped for air. A loud noise struck through the air, startling Spiderpaw, causing him to leap into the air from his spot and a few fox-lengths forward. He spun around, looking for the source of the sound until it occurred again. Thunder. Spiderpaw let out a sigh. I'm so stupid! He scolded himself. Rain pelted the ground, but he didn't care as his short. pelt was soaked in rain water. He began to pad towards camp. Suddenly lightning hit something nearby causing the ground to shake, Spiderpaw launched away from what it hit, his paws digging up wet soil. He turned to see a flaming log falling at him. He felt his eyes widened and he stood there paralyzed by fear and could do nothing as the log flew down at him.
