"Ok, we're on the fourth planet of the Leon Six Four Three solar system."

"Cool. What are we doing here, then?"

"This place does amazing spag bol."

"Right. And when are we?"

"In Earth time?"

Rose nodded. The Doctor glanced down at his watch, and did a double take. He frowned.

"Why d'you always do that?" Rose said, twiddling a piece of hair around her finger.

"Do what?" said the Doctor as he scrutinised his wristwatch. He held it up to his ear, shook his wrist a couple of times, peered at it and then listened intently to it again.

"Why d'you always check your watch whenever we land somewhere?"

"Blasted thing," he muttered. He whipped out his sonic screwdriver and pressed it against the face of the watch, whirring it gently.

"I mean, it's not like it tells you what year it is, is it?" persisted Rose. "Cause you always know the year when we land somewhere, the console screen in the TARDIS always tells you."

The Doctor looked up, surprised.

"Since when?"

"All the time. Since I've been here, at least."

The Doctor frowned at Rose, and then looked back towards the TARDIS. He glanced back down at his watch again and shrugged, continuing his work with the screwdriver. "Oh."

"What d'you mean, 'oh'?"

The Doctor thought for a moment, then took his watch off and shoved it into his jacket pocket.

"Nothing. Just forgot about the console screen. I haven't checked it since I got my watch." He took it out of his pocket and waved it at Rose. "It's connected to the TARDIS, see, so as soon as she knows where and when we are, she sends a psychic link to my watch. Clever, eh?" He grinned widely at Rose, who smiled patiently back.

"Yeah, clever," Rose agreed. "Although I still think it's easier just to check the console screen. That's what I'd do."

"Yeah, well, I used to do that until I got my watch, alright?"

"I'm only saying."

The Doctor huffed for a bit as he put the watch back in his pocket and replaced the sonic screwdriver.

"So the console screen still tells you where and when we are?"

"Yep," confirmed Rose. He sighed resignedly.

"Good job, too," said the Doctor, the Lord of Time. "My watch broke."
