Before Jonas' Community
Chapter 1
Scientists from all over the world were working on a project to prevent the human race to fail and disappear. The year was 2012. I know what you are probably thinking, this is another lame sci-fi about the apocalypse, but I am telling a story that has more than that to it. Well theses scientists thought that human race would die out because of a great plague that was produced by one of their labs. They had made a mistake, when they were experimenting on how to make a solution to make plants grow faster 5 times then they usually do. The result came out as the plants in that area died, and animals picked up that substance with them and are killing all of the plants and animals.
They knew that without any source of food to depend on any more they had to protect everybody. While the plagues kept growing larger, scientist were creating large domes on the areas that weren't affected yet. These domes were so large you couldn't even tell that they were even there. They gathered everybody into these domes and gave them instructions of what to do. Everybody was scared and nervous. They worried about having nothing to eat. Scientists collected all of the remaining animals and brought it into their labs. Their labs were the center of all the domes, connected somehow under the ground, to monitor the domes. They knew with all of the commotion going on they had to somehow restart everybody's knowledge of anything.
It was very depressing at first. The first few people, who were brainwashed of their life, didn't know what to do. They didn't remember their families, what their name was, or who these other people were. Their anxious families' members waiting for them to arrive back home with them, were upset and angry at the scientists. It was very discouraging them to see that their sons or daughters, fathers or mothers, and husbands or wives, didn't know who they were, and didn't seem to care. It was too much to bear, but once all of the brain washing was over they could start in a much organized way.
10 years have passed, and everybody was brainwashed (but not the scientists of course). During the brainwashing, scientists came up with a device to scan the people's minds and transmit important information to designated people. They also knew that they needed somebody to hold the memories of the whole world's past life. That's when they needed to assign a Giver.
First of all, the first Giver wasn't any of the brainwashed; he was originally one of the scientists. He took all the knowledge he knew and took computers to scan his memory of it forever. The hard work stressed him and he aged faster. He was Giver for only 20 years, and he was nearly dying. The other scientists thought, shouldn't there be an apprentice to the Giver, knowing that the first Giver was going to die. So it was set that the Giver was chosen specifically by the Elders.
There has to come a point when the scientists had to choose the right people to lead the communities when they have past and gone. So they chose people fit for this job and programmed those people to do what they have told them to do. The scientist headquarters were already trying to recover the outside of Earth. This task took a very long process and many years. With DNA that hey have saved of different species of animals. They cloned new ones one at a time and testing if life can survive again. Many failures, many years, and a long waiting. The scientists wanted to give up.
