Rose was so nervous. It was her first day at Hogwarts, and she had already made friends with Scorpius Malfoy. Yes, Malfoy's son, her father's worst enemy. Her dad would sure be happy to hear that (not!). It was almost time for the Sorting, and she was worried she'd be sorted into Hufflepuff or Slytherin. Ravenclaw would be okay, since they're the brightest, but nobody except Hufflepuffs knew exactly what Hufflepuffs were, and nobody liked Slytherins.

"So deep in thought that you can't even pay attention, Miss Weasley?" a familiar voice sounded from behind her. He chuckled as Rose turned around.

"Neville! I mean... Professor Longbottom! What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with the other teachers?" Rose asked, startled.

"As it so happens, I'm doing the Sorting this year. And of course, I wanted to wish you luck." he smiled, then looked at Scorpius. "Malfoy's kid?" he asked sharply. Rose had never heard her father's friend speak so sharply.

Scorpius seemed scared. "Er, yes sir. I mean, yes, I'm Scorpius Malfoy, sir." he choked out.

"Well, Mr. Malfoy, you are very lucky that I don't judge students on how their parents acted at Hogwarts," Neville said. Scorpius seemed relieved. Suddenly, Neville remembered that he had a job to do, and led the first years out of the chamber.

Most of the Sorting was a blur. Rose only noticed when Albus, Teddy, and Scorpius were all Sorted into Gryffindor. Scorpius surprised her. She thought for sure that he would be in Slytherin. Finally, it was Rose's turn. She went up to the stool and sat down. Neville placed the ripped hat on her head, and suddenly she heard a voice.

Ahhh a bright mind, I see. You would do well in Ravenclaw. But you are brave... To be friends with your father's enemy's son? Hmmm... What would you like my dear? the hat asked her. She wasn't sure. "Gryffindor. Please, Gryffindor," she whispered. Okay, then Gryffindor it is! The hat then yelled it out for the Great Hall to hear. Rose was ecstatic. It was starting out to be a good year.
