He finds it easy to lose sight of everything that matters, and it bothers him. But he's used to it. For all that he has seen, he is not surprised that so many hold the opinion that the world is going to pieces.

He has seen some of the worst things that the city has to offer. Has dealt with some of the worst criminals that one can imagine. It isn't easy, but the job is his livelihood. It is all he's known, and all he will ever know. And he wouldn't trade it for the world.

It scares him sometimes, what he sees. But he will never let it show. He promised to protect the city of Baltimore, and it is what he will do. Fear is not something he has time for. But he deals with it anyway.

He finds it easy to give up hope. To sit there and think that nothing can fix the way things are. The way people are. But then he looks out at his first shift, and sees his detectives and their sergeant talking…laughing, even.

And as he leaves the office to join them, he thinks that maybe there is still hope, after all.
