When she appeared, Dean knew they weren't dealing with a ghost. He was helpless to stop her from heaving Sam off the second story balcony.

"SAM!" She looked back at him, smiling mischievously, then disappeared. Dean cursed. He thought he recognized what she was - taking a gamble he ran for the car. Dean grabbed some lighter fluid and a homemade flame thrower. He heard her shriek when the first flames licked the tree in the yard.

To Dean's horror, the hamadryad ran into the fire, dying with her tree. Dean, shocked and nauseous, staggered off to check on Sam.
