Character: Gabrielle

Prompts: vain, shattered mirror, dealt cards, all that glitters isn't gold

you're so vain

aren't you honey?

just so obsessed with how you l o o k

always trying to catch up to her

(sister dearest)

but

you never were as p r e t t y as her

you spend allday staring in the mirror

at your gorgeousravishingbeautifulradiant reflection

because beauty's the only thing that

matters to you

"such an angel"

they always said

"such a pretty one"

but that's all you'll ever be

just p r e t t y

never beautiful

(never like her)

oh, whywhywhy can't you be as pretty as her?

you can s t a r v e yourself all you want hun,

but the cards have been dealt

and yours isn't the winning hand

(hers is of course)

why did she get all the luck?

she's so much p r e t t i e r than you

and smarter

and so much luckier

it's just not fair

(but life isn't fair sweetie

hasn't anyone taught you that?)

all that g*l*i*t*t*e*r*s isn't g_o_l_d

you of all people should know that

because you have a shine

(it isn't as bright as hers

she still outshines you)

but you aren't perfect

not like her

you aren't the exquisite little

gilded lily

(you never will be)

you aren't their little flower

you aren't lined with g_o_l_d

you aren't enough

the mirror has s h a t t e r e d

along with your p r e t t y reflection

and you g r a s p at the shards

hoping that they'll mend

and bring back your p r e t t y visage

but you can't hide all your scars honey

you're gonna have to let some show

the tears stream down your cheeks

as the sobs wrack your body

making you s h u d d e r

you'll never be as perfect as her

so why are you still trying?

your vanity takes control of you

you don't e_a_t anymore

scars line your wrists

and there's more makeup then s-k-i-n on your face

but you can't stop

because if you do,

you'll never be as p r e t t y as her

you're still trying to pick up the slivers of your mirror

and make them whole

so you can see your reflection again

and preen yourself to your shallow heart's content

but the pieces won't fit together

and your reflection is off kilter

it doesn't show your beauty anymore

just your flaws

you can't stand to look at yourself anymore

all you see

is a screwed-up girl

with no heart,

no conscious,

nothing

but you don't really care

as long as you're p r e t t y

it'll all be okay

because when it comes down to it

you don't care about you're p e r s o n a l i t y

only how you're perceived

so when they call you heartless and bitchy and a w h o r e

you don't mind

you like it

because despite that

they're still talking about how p r e t t y you are

so yeah, you l i k e i t

but then again,

you've always been a vain one,

haven't you?
