A Castle Fanfiction
Note: This is the revised version of my story. Since I revealed that I am an English teacher I've decided to try and clean up my boo-boos, starting with this story. Please read and [hopefully] review this version.
Just a little drabble about why Kate might use terms for Rick that she has not for anyone else.
Summary: As she lies in their bed in the Hamptons, Kate makes a startling discovery. This story is set in the morning after the MOST WONDERFL NIGHT OF HER LIFE [see "Mystery of the Silent Writer"]
Disclaimer: All Castle related characters belong to Andrew Marlowe and .
Kate Beckett, Detective, was not a person given to endearments. Of course they would have been totally out of place in her professional life, but even in her private relationships no terms of affection were used. Not with Lainie, nor Will, or Tom, and definitely not with Motorcycle Boy.
In a way this was actually strange, because when she was growing up, the Beckett household was a house of endearments. Both Jim and Johanna showered, honeys and babies, and sweethearts, and darlings on one another. And to their one and only sweetie, angel, baby doll, Kate they had been even more affectionate.
That is until that terrible night when Coonan had taken Johanna away from them. Jim and Kate had suffered many losses that night, and one of them had been the loss of endearments from their vocabularies. That is until this morning.
Last night Kate and Rick had declared and proven [multiple ecstatic times] their deep and abiding love for each other, and now as she lay in the huge master bed in their beach house; staring down at her one true love, she thought to herself:
"Oh, God, honey, I love you so much"
It was with a feeling of shock that Kate realized that in her mind he was not Castle, or Rick, but honey. Just like that after one magical night, the endearments were back in her vocabulary. As she lay there thinking about what this meant; she came to two realizations, the first [which was no surprise] was that she was indeed truly, deeply, and irrevocably in love with him; the other was a little more surprising and even startling. The reemergence of this deeply affectionate side of her was in some magical and mystical way, Johanna's sign that she approved of Kate and Rick. It was as if, looking down from "heaven", her mother was saying, "He's a keeper, angel, he's your 'one and done' Katie."
As she bent down and kissed him lovingly on the cheek, she uttered for the first time what would become her standard beginning of their day together greeting [whether in their home or if she had gone to work first at the 12th]: "Good morning, baby, I love you."
And from then on Rick was Kate's honey, baby, and sweetheart[she didn't use "darling" though, she thought it made her sound too much like Nora Charles].
