"Okay, this has gone far enough!"
Foster looked up at the shout, slightly annoyed about his work being interrupted, but not willing to risk Pogo getting any angrier than he already seemed. "What… What's gone far enough?"
"This, Foster." Pogo gestured at the chaos; piles of dismantled detector parts, a handful of common artefacts bobbing around, diagrams and equations scribbled in chalk, and, in the middle of it all, Foster sat cross-legged on the floor.
"I get that you're happy to remember something from your past, and I'm happy for you, but stealing from the Ecologists? Really?"
"They weren't using this stuff. They had extra."
"Sure about that?"
"Yes."
"Then why have they been asking people, me included, if they've seen their missing gear?"
"Oh."
"So you'll give them their stuff back?"
"… No. Mine now. Should have kept a closer eye on it, if it was that important."
Pogo sighed. "That's really not how it works, but… Alright, here's a deal: You can keep four of the detectors -and I mean that-," he repeated, when Foster looked like he was about to complain, "Four detectors, and three of the artefacts. You can take the rest back to the bunker, and apologise personally for causing trouble. Is that clear?" Foster stared blankly back at him.
"Why apologise when I'm… not sorry?"
"Foster…" sighing again, Pogo prayed internally to whatever deities could be listening, "It doesn't matter if you mean it, just do it. Take the stuff back and say sorry, or… uh… I'll take your plant away!" That got a reaction; eyes widened, shoulders stiffened, and Foster looked about ready to make a run for the scientists bunker right then and there.
"My plant…" Peering over his shoulder at the small potted plant by his bag, Foster frowned and grumbled quietly under his breath, before turning back to Pogo. "I'll take the stuff back."
"And apologise?"
"Fine."
"Good." Expression softening, Pogo made his way carefully through the piles of circuitry until he could reach out and run his hand through Foster's hair, smiling when Foster gave no resistance and simply leaned into the touch. "I'll make it up to you, yes? We can find some more detectors, and, if you like, I can help with any experiments you want to run."
No real response from Foster, only a low "hmm" as he pressed his head firmly against Pogo's hand, but Pogo chuckled anyway.
"I'll take that as a 'yes', then."
