Perfect From Faraway

Her eyes sparkling, glimmering like rubies freshly polished, and full of life. But they were not today. Full of tears, the once every year she would will herself to let her emotions free. So weak, so exposed on this day, like a newborn kitten confronting the world. Hands pounding the wall, not caring of the damage done. Dead heart clawing at her chest, willing to be free, torn between fury and despair. Her other half doing the same, no one to lean on. Angry burning coursed through my body as I thought of the ones who did this to her.

"Jane?" my voice trembling.

Her back stiffened, as she obviously became aware of my appearance.

"What?" she snapped weakly, her usual voice full of character and authority, now tuned down, rough and hoarse.

"It's today isn't it?" I mentally cursed at myself for being so insolent. Those were not the correct words to say to her fragile state of mind.

"Yes." was her short reply, her tiny frame quivering.

I shuddered. Where was that mean attitude full of anger she usually conveyed?

"Demetri, will you please just leave? You seem to know enough. You know I can't trust anyone. Not even the Masters."

I growled fiercely, letting my animalistic side out, biting my cheek, and wincing as the warm, toxic venom gushed out.

"NO Jane! I can't just watch you sit there in misery! I can't just pretend what those villagers did to you and Alec was not cruel, sick, vile, and sadistic! You were ONLY FOURTEEN!

Jane's dark red eyes glistened, and venom-tears pooled up.

"Demetri, why don't you just go? I know you and the rest of the guards think I'm a horrible person! NOW LEAVE!"

"NO JANE! You are one of the most perfect creatures ever! And, yes, you made idiotic mistakes, but dare I say, I've made 3 times as many!"

With that I hugged her deeply, not letting her go at all.

She looked at me, her blood red eyes meeting my burgundy ones, and with that, we did not need to speak to know there was hope.

We Would Be Each Other's Savior.
